    Job Description

    The Engineer II, Manufacturing Engineering, at Thermo Fisher Scientific will play a crucial role in enhancing production processes and systems within the LCD (Lab Chemical Division). This position entails collaborating with equipment engineering, safety, quality, and production teams to develop and lead efforts in optimizing processes, improving efficiency, and reducing costs.

     

    Key Responsibilities of role

     

    Provide day-to-day technical support for production operations, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient manufacturing performance.

     

    Partner with production teams to fix and resolve complex process-related issues, minimizing downtime and improving process stability.

     

    Design, develop, and implement robust manufacturing processes that enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability across chemical production.

     

    Collaborate closely with maintenance, operations, and process engineering teams to find opportunities for improvement, analyze production data, and implement changes that drive productivity, reduce costs, and improve quality outcomes.

     

    Develop and maintain process control strategies, including work instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.

     

    Collect, interpret, and analyze process data to identify performance trends, variances, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

     

    Evaluate, specify, and support the selection and qualification of manufacturing equipment, machinery, and tooling to ensure scalability and reliability.

     

    Lead root cause analysis, apply risk management methodologies, and develop corrective and preventive action plans to address issues and prevent recurrence.

     

    Prepare and deliver detailed technical reports and presentations on process performance, including metrics and improvement outcomes, to multi-functional partners and senior leadership.

     

    Recommend and implement data-driven solutions and automation strategies to strengthen process efficiency, enhance product quality, and ensure operational excellence.

     

    Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste, optimize process flow, and drive cost reduction while maintaining high-quality standards.

     

    Provide timely status updates to leadership, proactively communicate risks or challenges, and recommend solutions to keep projects on track.

     

    Ensure alignment to project budgets while identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives aligned with divisional and site goals.

    Requirements

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related subject area.

     

    Minimum of 4+ years of progressive experience in a complex chemical, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environment.

     

    Demonstrated ability to influence and inspire change, fostering strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and vendors.

     

    Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or equivalent) and data-driven decision-making methodologies.

     

    Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies, with proven success in implementing process improvement initiatives.

     

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with expertise in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action planning.

     

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively across functions and organizational levels.

     

    Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment while independently managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated setting.
