    SUMMARY:

    The Logistician manages the life cycle from purchase to delivery at Overseas Offices handling planning, sourcing, vendor coordination, all modes of transportation, customs clearance, and final delivery. Serves as subject matter expert for supply chain. Ensures compliance with all export and import regulations, including US and host country requirements, sanctions, licensing, and dangerous goods (DG) handling where applicable. Analyzes and develops supply chain processes and continues to look for streamlining operations. In close consultation with the programs and country offices, liaises with the Programs to procure materials and supplies and ensure timely delivery at overseas offices. This includes packing and repacking supplies and preparing them for shipment, ensuring appropriate packaging for temperature sensitive, fragile, or hazardous materials. The Logistician also takes the lead in the import of lab samples and other items into the US, including adherence to Centers for Disease and Control Prevention (CDC), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) import requirements for biological materials. Reports to the Supervisor, Contracts and Procurement and may provide additional support to other OO projects as needed. Due to travel requirements, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) may be required.

    FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

    + In close consultation with the programs and country offices, liaises with the Programs to procure materials and supplies and ensure timely delivery at overseas offices.

    + Reports to the Supervisor, Contracts and Procurement and may provide additional support to other Overseas Offices projects as needed.

    + Due to travel requirements, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) may be required.

    + Performs other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    + A bachelor's degree in supply chain management or related field, and two years of experience in the export of materials and supplies, OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database applications, and cloud-based applications and software.

    + Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds, and to bend, stoop and twist.

    + May require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French is a plus.

    + Demonstrated experience in importing and exporting of goods out of the United States.

    + Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) or International Society of Logistics (SOLE) certification.

    + Previous experience working internationally with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), especially in low-resource or conflict-affected settings, is preferred.

    + Demonstrated experience in procurement of supplies and working knowledge of e-procurement software.

    + Cloud-based procurement, supply chain management and inventory management applications and software experience.

    + Familiarity with eprocurement.

    + Dangerous Goods Certification.

    + Experience coordinating temperature-controlled shipments and lab sample imports/exports.

     

    NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines.  All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia. The Carter Center reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
