    TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Nuclear Science and Engineering, is a postgraduate position designed to further the understanding of innovative manufacturing, prototyping, fabrication and maker-space development/maintenance to facilitate a future application to graduate school. Will develop the capabilities for neutron activation methods, including data analytics (including machine learning and AI), sampling design and device development. The job duties for this position include: upgrading, managing, running and improving the (a) NSF-based training for the alternate maker lodge, and (b) the new advanced integrated design-making Ironman training program (CNC, EDM, 5 axis machining); updating, maintaining, and leveraging the data collection capabilities in the makerspace and use this to assess effectiveness and changes that can be made to improve program (NSF and makerspace) effectiveness; upgrading, running and improving the social programming for the NSF grant and makerspace; performing neutron activation measurements, sample preparation and processing, large-scale toenail collection methodology development; and improving codes for gamma spectra and signal processing, and summarize document research results.

    Job Requirements

    REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of two years educational/work background in a relevant technical discipline (Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering are preferred); superb command of English, both written and spoken, with a demonstrated ability to structure complex technical documents and write with clear and precise prose; discretion in selecting research directions, finding and reviewing papers, and synthesizing research findings; and programming facility with a computational mathematics packages (e.g., Python). PREFERRED: Subject-matter knowledge in neutron activation methods and CAD and equivalent software.

     

    This is a full-time position expected to work in residence at MIT.

     

    The position is for one year, renewable for up to one additional year pending satisfactory performance.
