Job Summary and Qualifications

As the Manager of Neuroscience, you will be responsible for the clinical and financial outcomes of the designated clinical unit. You will act as a representative of the Director of Nursing and Administration, and will collaborate with the Director of Nursing and Nursing Supervisor in ensuring competent, cost-effective patient care.

+ You will ensure accuracy and completeness of paperwork for patients, employee incident reports, and medication error reports

+ You will promote cooperation with other departments, medical staff, auxiliary and community agencies to facilitate optimum patient care

+ You will ensure completion of performance enhancement reports You will facilitate involvement of staff in performance improvement activities

+ You will assist with development of a unit budget You will interpret hospital and personnel policies to physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors and healthcare providers

+ You will assist in coverage of the unit, including non-paid coverage

+ You will facilitate staff development and orientation of new employees

+ You will provide input for the interviewing and hiring of new employees

+ You will coordinate student/preceptee and preceptor assignments You will approve unit schedules

+ You will provide input for personnel performance appraisals including goals and objectives, and assist with employee counseling when necessary

+ You will maintain compliance with regulatory/accrediting agencies

+ You will attend monthly staff meetings on each shift to share and receive information

+ You will provide follow up with physician and patient/family issues

+ You will ensure compliance with nursing standards of care

+ You will monitor patient/physician/employee satisfaction and provide follow up by developing action plans with the Director of Nursing

What qualifications you will need:

+ Minimum of three years of experience as a Charge Nurse, Care Coordinator or Supervisor

+ Experience demonstrating leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills

+ Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Master’s degree in Nursing – preferred

+ Current license as a Registered Nurse in Texas or active compact license. If compact license if from state other than Texas, colleague must apply for a Texas Nursing license within 60 days of hire, and obtain current Texas Registered Nurse license within six months of application

+ Basic Life Support certification

+ NIHSS certification required within 30 days
