Duties Description Under the supervision of the Historic Site Assistant, the Historic Site Interpreter Assistant will perform a range of administrative and historic site interpreter duties at Crown Point Historic Site. Duties include but are not limited to: Provide regular guided tours of the historic site grounds and participate in development of new tours, hikes, and educational and interpretive programs. Answer museum phones, respond to public inquiries, and communicate effectively with staff and park visitors. Assist the Historic Site Manager & Historic Site Assistant with planning and delivering special events. Assist Historic Site Manager & Historic Site Assistant with administrative and office duties. Perform light maintenance and cleaning in the historic site museum. Maintain and promote a safe working environment by applying good safety practices. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: No minimum qualification per Civil Service. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working in delivering interpretive programs and tours in a public service setting is preferred. - Experience or willingness to deliver living history interpretation preferred. - Experience working or volunteering in a museum or other cultural institution.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS: - Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. - Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as with others. - Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner. - Must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. - Incumbents are expected to climb stairs as part of their regular duties, stand for long periods of time, and be available for site programming.
