Chemistry Lab Assistant

Job Description

The primary function of the Chemistry Lab Assistant is to support the registration of samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), print and label sets of samples, and organize them for delivery to the appropriate lab for the required testing. This role involves a significant amount of interaction with various laboratory processes and requires attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

+ Register samples into LIMS and organize them for delivery to the appropriate labs.

+ Deliver samples to the relevant labs for testing and pull samples for preparation or retesting.

+ Stock and order laboratory supplies to ensure smooth operations.

+ Sterilize and wash glassware to maintain a clean lab environment.

+ Test hoods for air flow and perform pH testing and general sample preparation.

+ Complete core method training and sample registration training to understand the lab's process flow.

+ Register and deliver reagents and other laboratory supplies to appropriate lab and storage areas.

+ Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), USDA, and Quality standards.

+ Open parcels of samples and laboratory supplies and input them into appropriate systems for use.

+ Perform 5S methodology to organize and maintain stocks of inventory, lab supplies, and documents.

+ Ensure the safe use and storage of lab equipment and chemicals.

+ Participate in team meetings and communicate around deadlines and timing of testing completion.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ High School Diploma with 1 year or more of laboratory or sample registration experience.

+ Alternatively, a 2-year or 4-year degree in sciences with a willingness to work as a Lab Assistant for 6+ months.

+ Experience in retail, customer service, or serving is valued as it demonstrates time management and teamwork skills, though not necessary.

Work Environment

The standard work shift is from 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, with opportunities for overtime during the week.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
