    Position OverviewUnited Health Services is excited to introduce a new Peri-Anesthesia Nurse Educator position. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced RN to design, develop, and implement the educational framework for nurses caring for patients in pre-operative, post-anesthesia, and procedural settings. The Educator will establish orientation programs, develop ongoing competency and quality initiatives, and collaborate with leaders to define best practices that meet evolving regulatory standards and patient needs.

     

    We are seeking a licensed RN in New York State with significant ICU and PACU experience, strong teaching and leadership skills, and an educational vision for how this role can grow and transform practice.     UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY

    UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NY

     

    There is more than one location associated with this position. This is either because there are multiple openings at different sites, or the successful candidate will be required to float across multiple UHS facilities.     $40.70 - $61.05 per hour, depending on experience

    Job Requirements:

    + Consistently meets or exceeds expectations for a Registered Nurse when providing patient care including: the use of Nursing Process to assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement and evaluate nursing care; evidence-based practice; patient-centered care; education for patients and families; administration of medications; collaboration with the health care team, productivity and effective resources utilization; participation in Shared Governance; support of a learning environment; and professional development.

    + Conducts annual education needs assessment. Gathers input from Quality Management, Nurse Managers, staff and Nursing Education and Professional Practice.

    + Plans educational programming based on needs assessment, utilizing adult learning principles, which is consistent for all areas cross-site. Schedules educational programming at times to meet staff needs.

    + Coordinates required certifications for the practice area. (i.e., BASIC Coronary Course, Fetal Monitoring, NRP).

    + Develops and maintains a written progressive orientation program that incorporates the Joint Commission standards and New York State requirements along with the Competency Based Orientation Tools (CBO) and UHS Clinical Coaching guidelines.

    + Coordinates and oversees orientation programs in the practice area (may be cross-site) including meeting with new employees regularly during the orientation period to evaluate progress. Provides progress reports to Nurse Managers.

    + Facilitates, coordinates and conducts ongoing quality management and improvement activities for the practice area.

    + Compiles quarterly data related to quality performance improvement indicators and submits to the Nurse Managers and Director of Nursing.

    + Maintains educational records for orientation, mandatory programs, and continuing education programs and submits records to Nursing Education and Professional Practice.

    + Plans and manages the annual Competency Assessment process of staff to ensure completion.

    + Serves as an education consultant to nursing personnel.

    + After appropriate training, functions as a Nurse Planner within the UHS Approved Provider Unit for Continuing Nursing Education (through the Nursing Education and Professional Practice Department).

    + Participates in a minimum of one professional nursing organization.

    Position RequirementsMinimum Required:

    + Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing

    + New York State Registered Nurse

    + CPR certification within 3 months of hire

    + NRP certification

    + Three (3) years relevant clinical nursing experience

    Preferred:

    + Clinical Specialist with master’s degree in nursing

    + Previous education or management experience

    + CPR Basic Life Support Instructor certification

    + Professional certification in a related nursing specialty (C-EFM, In-Pt OB)

    + Member of AWHONN

    + Experience in collaboration with various interdisciplinary teams
