General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a Planning Coordinator – CDC Emergency Operations to join our team onsite at the CDC Roybal Campus in Atlanta, GA. This position supports the CDC’s Division of Emergency Operations (DEO) within the Office of Readiness and Response (ORR).

Public health emergency preparedness is dynamic and constantly evolving. CDC’s DEO leads and administers the agency’s Emergency Management Program, enabling CDC to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a full spectrum of public health threats, domestically and globally.

In this role, you will ensure timely development, execution, and maintenance of core incident planning documents — including Incident Action Plans, Situation Reports, Transition Activities, and Response Plans — that guide CDC’s emergency operations.

This opportunity is well-suited for professionals with prior CDC, DEO, or Emergency Operations Center (EOC) experience who want to continue supporting CDC’s mission, as well as Atlanta-based public health and emergency management specialists seeking to deepen their impact.

How a Planning Coordinator Will Make an Impact

As a Planning Coordinator, you will contribute directly to CDC’s incident planning cycle and emergency operations by:

+ Leading and assisting in the preparation, execution, and maintenance of Incident Action Plans (IAPs), Situation Reports (SitReps), Transition Activities, and Response Plans in alignment with CDC standards.

+ Supporting ongoing response plan development and updates to ensure readiness for emerging and evolving public health threats.

+ Providing structured report writing, data collection, and documentation to inform decision-making across leadership and response teams.

+ Coordinating with planning and operations staff to deliver accurate, timely, and actionable products during emergency activations.

+ Contributing to a high-tempo, mission-critical environment where precision, consistency, and effective communication are vital.

    What You’ll Need to Succeed

    Required Education & Experience

+ Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or 7+ years of work experience in lieu of a degree.

+ Demonstrated experience in an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) or public health emergency management environment, ideally with CDC or a similar organization.

+ Proven ability to support the development, execution, and maintenance of Incident Action Plans, Situation Reports, Transition Activities, and Response Plans.

    Technical Skills

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

+ Strong skills in report writing, data collection, and documentation.

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-tempo environment.

    Clearance Requirement

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a CDC Public Trust clearance.

    Soft Skills

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief and support senior leadership.

+ Keen attention to detail, with excellent proofreading and organizational skills.

+ Ability to adapt quickly, work collaboratively, and respond effectively during emergencies.

    Attributes for Success

+ Familiarity with CDC processes, policies, and emergency operations protocols.

+ Prior experience supporting incident planning, reporting, or response documentation within CDC or similar public health/emergency management organizations.

+ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a high-pressure environment.

+ Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving ability in dynamic response settings.

+ Commitment to public health and emergency preparedness missions.
