Attorney Analyst position summary:
The House Budget and Research Office is looking for an intellectually curious, ambitious, and diligent attorney who desires a career in a dynamic public sector environment. The individual hired for this position will support the legislative process and policy initiatives of the House of Representatives through the use of legal experience and skills, including researching complex legal and policy matters. Although the position has full-time responsibilities throughout the year, the demands of the position are particularly rigorous during the legislative session.
About the House Budget and Research Office:
The House Budget and Research Office provides objective and timely financial information and policy analysis to the 180 members of the Georgia House of Representatives. The office provides staff support to the Appropriations Committee and the more than 40 other standing committees and special committees of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Job Location:
Atlanta, Georgia
Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Attend and staff House committees during session, which includes working closely with staff from the House and the Office of Legislative Counsel.
+ Develop subject-matter expertise on issues within a committee's jurisdiction.
+ Conduct legal research to provide legislators with accurate and objective information on complex legal issues.
+ Prepare briefs, legal memoranda, or statements of issues involved in proposed legislation, including appropriate suggestions or recommendations.
+ Review necessary judicial opinions, decisions, and citations.
+ Prepare bill summaries, track and analyze legislation throughout the legislative process.
+ Draft summaries of enacted legislation.
Qualified Candidate snapshot:
• Juris Doctorate Degree.
• Active and good standing with the Georgia State Bar.
• Legislative or state agency experience. Internships and Externships can satisfy this experience preference.
• Superior writing and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of the Georgia Code, Constitutional Law and federal and state regulations.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause
