David Sussillo aligned that a new hire could be managed by Peter.

The electrical engineer plays a critical role in advancing the sensor electronics processing boards and power systems not only for the Gecko Glove but also for Donut Rings and upcoming ground truth data collection hardware. Their work will enhance sensor integration signal fidelity wireless communication and power efficiency across these devices. This role is vital for accelerating hardware research enabling robust and scalable prototype production and reducing electrical failures during data collection studies.

Electrical Engineer Role

Collaborate with team on repair and maintenance e.g. SMT soldering

Design and develop sensor circuits main logic boards and power management systems.

Integrate force sensing resistors inertial measurement units and other sensors with microcontrollers and wireless modules.

Develop and maintain firmware for data acquisition Bluetooth communication and power optimization across multiple device types.

Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure electrical assembly quality and streamline production workflows.

Diagnose and resolve electrical issues in prototypes and production units supporting rapid repair and iteration cycles.

Maintain comprehensive documentation for electrical schematics firmware and testing protocols applicable to diverse hardware.

Support research efforts to improve sensor characterization and data quality for ground truth data collection.

Skillsets and Qualifications

Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechatronics Electrical Engineering or related field.

Proven experience in full stack prototyping EE ME firmware and Python integration.

Proficiency in PCB design KiCad Altium Eagle.

Strong hands on skills in soldering assembly and debugging.

Experience with sensor integration and wireless communication.

Ability to write embedded code Arduino and integrate with Python.

Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Strong problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Job Description

We are seeking a versatile Hardware Prototyping Engineer to join the Input and UX Explorations Team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on full stack environment building and iterating on hardware prototypes focusing on electrical engineering EE but also touching mechanical engineering ME firmware and software integration. You will be responsible for designing building and maintaining hardware prototypes used for ground truth data collection.

Key Responsibilities

Hardware Prototyping and Build

Design assemble and iterate on prototypes.

Perform SMT soldering PCB design and repair maintenance of devices.

Collaborate on mechanical design CAD using tools like Fusion360 SolidWorks or NX softgoods integration and ergonomic optimization.

Electrical Engineering

Develop analog and digital circuits performing sensor integration

Design and troubleshoot PCBs using tools like Altium Eagle or KiCad.

Integrate microcontrollers and wireless modules e.g. Bluetooth LE.

Firmware and Software Integration

Write and maintain firmware for Arduino and other microcontrollers.

Develop Python scripts to interface with hardware collect and process data.

Ensure robust communication between hardware and software systems.

Collaboration and Documentation

Work closely with ME and EE team members on repair maintenance and prototype distribution.

Document designs assembly instructions firmware and testing procedures.

Support manufacturing quality control and inventory management.

Troubleshooting and Iteration

Diagnose and resolve electrical mechanical issues.

Rapidly iterate on prototypes to improve reliability comfort and manufacturability.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $85K - $90K depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
