    Position Summary

    The City’s Water Reclamation Facility is in search of a short-term worker to learn wastewater operations under the guidance of certified Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)Operators. This includes flow adjustments, sampling water for quality control, monitoring plant performance, cleaning and calibrating equipment, handling chemicals safely, and learning Water Reclamation Facility data management and maintenance software. Flexible scheduling to work around class schedules.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    The following duties are intended to be done alongside and/or with the guidance of WRF Operators:

    + The operation of the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF);

    + How to use WRF data management and maintenance software;

    + Collect and conduct tests on water samples in accordance with EPA and State regulations;

    + Maintaining complete and accurate records of facility operation functions, tests, results, and preventive and corrective maintenance work performed;

    + Operating a variety of mechanical gates and valves to regulate the flow of wastewater through various treatment processes to ensure the production of effluent water;

    + Treatment analysis and processes control tests;

    + Preventive and corrective maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, and repair on equipment, vehicles, and facilities to ensure safe and efficient operation, including welding, fabrication, carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical repairs;

    + Repair or rebuild of City equipment including pumps, electric motors, boilers, compressors, blowers, boilers, turbines, gear reducers, valves, tractors, loaders, graders, lawn mowers, and other related equipment;

    + Monitoring facility operations to ensure all processes are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, and in compliance with Federal rules and regulations;

    + Maintaining the interior and exterior of the Treatment Facility in a clean and orderly manner to ensure a safe work environment;

    + Reading and interpreting manuals, drawings, and specifications as required;

    + Operating a variety of hand, power, and shop tools, light, medium, and heavy-duty equipment, and vehicles appropriate to the functional area of assignment.

     

    Minimum Required Qualifications

     

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + Interest in or pursuit of a degree in water/wastewater treatment, engineering, chemistry, or environmental science, or a closely related field.

    + Some experience or coursework in water/wastewater treatment, engineering, chemistry, or environmental science is preferred.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Must possess basic computer skills.
