Required Skills:

Research Scientist Responsibilities:

1. Perform research and develop solutions to computer software and computer hardware problems.

2. Research, design, and develop new optimization algorithms and techniques to improve the efficiency and performance of Meta’s platforms.

3. Design and implement large-scale distributed software systems to serve large numbers of complex requests simultaneously and without failure.

4. Utilize technical research background, train new ranking models, and run experiments.

5. Create tools for migrating large bodies of user data across systems for new products, scalability efforts, and development of new core infrastructure.

6. Use machine learning, statistics, or other data techniques to build algorithms.

7. Suggest, collect, and synthesize system requirements from stakeholders and create effective feature roadmaps.

8. Analyze and resolve computer challenges from a system engineering standpoint.

9. Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

10. Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

11. Requires a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent degree) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Sciences, or a related field

12. Requires completion of one graduate-level course, one research project, or one internship involving each of the following skills:

13. 1. Machine Learning Framework(s): PyTorch, MXNet, or Tensorflow

14. 2. Machine learning, recommendation systems, ranking systems, computer vision, natural language processing, data mining, or distributed systems

15. 3. Translating insights into business recommendations

16. 4. Hadoop/HBase/Pig or MapReduce/Sawzall/Bigtable/Spark

17. 5. Developing and debugging in C/C++ and Java

18. 6. Scripting languages such as Perl, Python, PHP, or shell scripts

19. 7. C, C++, C#, or Java

20. 8. Python, PHP, or Haskell

21. 9. Relational databases and SQL

22. 10. Software development tools: Code editors (VIM or Emacs), and revision control systems (Subversion, GIT, or Perforce)

23. 11. Linux, UNIX, or other *nix-like OS including file manipulation and simple commands

24. 12. Building highly-scalable performant solutions

25. 13. Distributed systems including sharding, consistency, and availability
