    Job Description

    BPS Related Service Department Overview- Rationale of Need: With the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) projecting a 16% job growth for OTs from 2019 to 2029, the demand for these professionals is surging. However, the supply of new graduates may not be sufficient to meet this demand, leading to staffing shortages that can impact the quality of care.

     

    Reports To: Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Supervisor reports to the Senior Director of Related Services and the Supervisors of Related Services.

    Responsibilities:

    + Provide OTA supervision in accordance with 259 CMR 3.00.

    + Occupational Therapy Services: Therapy and consultation services will be coordinated by the OTA Supervisor to be implemented by the OTA. OTA Supervisor will plan services in accordance with the IEP or 504 Plan. Amount of direct and indirect supervision, beyond the initial planning phases will be based on the skills of the assistant and the needs of the students. The supervisor will review each plan of care as needed for timely implementation of modifications. The OTA Supervisor will document the amount and type of supervision provided. Documentation must include hours of employment per month, and the date, type, and duration of supervision. The name, signature, and license number of the supervisor must appear on the form.

    + Evaluation: The OTA Supervisor will be responsible for the assessment of students, corresponding documentation, and determining goals/objectives for the students that the OTA services. The OTA Supervisor will write reports that reflect the results of all administered assessment measures and observations that contain information helpful and understandable to all involved parties and that contain clear recommendations. Evaluations will be performed within timelines established in state and federal regulations.

    + Additional Paperwork: The OTA may write progress notes for the students they are seeing, however the OTA supervisor will review all progress notes written by the OTA.

    + General Responsibilities: The OTA Supervisor must comply with state regulations concerning renewal of certifications and licenses. The OTA Supervisor must adhere to MA state guidelines for OTA Supervision.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Education: Hold a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy

    + Must hold and maintain an Occupational Therapy Professional License.

    + Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed

    + Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

    + OTA Supervisor to have at least 3 years experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + At least three years of working experience in Boston Public Schools

    + Completion of a minimum of 2 hours of professional development in clinical instruction/supervision.

     

    Terms : Stipend- flat rate $3000/year

     

    + Note: If OTA Supervision is conducted for less than the full school year, the stipend compensation will be prorated.

    + Stipend supervisions shall not be required to exceed MA state supervision pairing requirements. (I.e. at no point will a stipend supervisor be permitted to supervise more than 3 OTAs.)

    + Compensation is for the activity of OTA supervision and is not multiplied by the number of OTAs supervised.

    + Supervision of more than one OTA would require final approval from the Senior Director of Related Services and only be considered when the OTAs are part-time.
