    Job Description

    Minneapolis College is currently accepting applications for an Academic Advisor.

     

    The Academic Advisor will work collaboratively with their Academy Team, consisting of advisors, faculty, the Dean, and the Director of Advising to provide high quality academic advising services to Minneapolis College students enrolled in academic programs, to which they are assigned. Utilizing an intrusive and progressive advising model, provide consistent, timely, accurate information to students regarding college curricular and policy requirements relative to academic program planning. Assist students to develop and successfully complete their career and educational goals, effectively use the College resources available to them, and use and interpret college information.

     

    This position may be eligible for partial telework per the Minneapolis College’s Telework Guidelines.

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    + Provide appropriate, high quality advising services to Minneapolis College students currently enrolled in the programs that fall under the Academy to which they are assigned. Support students’ successful enrollment and completion of their academic goals by utilizing a progressive and intrusive advising approach.

    + Appropriately consult with College staff and faculty to support advising services for students.

    + Assist students in orientating to the college during Advising and Registrations sessions.

    + Actively participate in school-related committees and/or meetings.

    + Participate in various college and MinnState committees as assigned or invited.

    + Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.

    Salary Range:

    $23.98 hourly/$50,070 annually - 34.69 hourly/$72,433 annually

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Experience working with post-secondary students or students who are preparing for postsecondary enrollment, including but not limited to: academic advising, career counseling, financial aid, admissions, records/registration, guidance counseling, or other support functions.

    + Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of college student development.

    + Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and clarify problems or issues and to prepare and execute possible solutions under the direction of a supervisor.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, speaking, writing and the ability to deal tactfully with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner.

    + Demonstrated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.

    + Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency. Incorporates culturally responsive practices and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.

    Other Requirements

    Former and/or current employees of Minneapolis College must be in good standing with the College for consideration.

    Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)

    40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30pm with occasional evenings as required.
