    POSITION DETAILS

    The Asian American / Asian Research Institute (AAARI), based in Manhattan, seeks a full-time Research Programs Director to lead, coordinate, and expand its applied research agenda on issues affecting Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in New York City and State. Reporting to the Dean of AAARI, the Research Director will work closely with faculty, community partners, and policymakers to produce data-driven reports and public scholarship that inform policy and promote equity. This is a full-time position, funded through at least June 30, 2026, with possible continuation of the position beyond that date.

    Key Responsibilities:

    - Design and manage applied research projects on topics, such as education, health, housing, labor, and immigration impacting AAPI communities

     

    - Supervise and support research staff, consultants, and student interns

     

    - Serve as lead or co-author on publications and policy briefs

     

    - Develop and manage data systems, including quantitative and qualitative datasets

     

    - Collaborate with faculty and community-based organizations on participatory research

     

    - Represent AAARI in meetings with city and state agencies, funders, and advocacy coalitions

     

    - Identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant writing

     

    - Assist in presenting research findings through briefings, panels, and public events, which may sometimes involve out-of-town travel

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required, as well as a thorough knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements and grant and contract management.

    Additional qualifications include:

    - Master’s degree or PhD preferred, including degrees in public policy, sociology, education, public health, Asian American studies, ethnic studies, or a related field

     

    - Strong analytical skills, including experience with census data, surveys, and/or program evaluation

     

    - Proficiency with statistical analysis software and GIS software

     

    - Familiarity with NYC/NYS policy issues and AAPI community needs

     

    - Excellent writing and communication skills, especially for non-academic audiences and on topics relevant AAPI communities

     

    - A track record of publishing research on AAPI communities in academic journals and producing high quality research reports on AAPI communities for public distribution

     

    - Experience managing budgets and project deliverables

     

    - Must be willing to work in Manhattan, the location of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute

    Provides campus-wide leadership and administrative support in the development and administration of grants and contracts.

     

    - Manages grants, research projects and proposals, and pre- and post-award activities

     

    - Participates in short- and long-term planning of research programs that meet academic and institutional priorities

     

    - Identifies and analyzes potential funding sources

     

    - Oversees grant development activities, policies, and procedures

     

    - Reports on the advancement and completion of research projects to senior management and outside organizations

     

    - Provides fiscal oversight related to research programs

     

    - Oversees compliance with internal and external policies and regulations

     

    - Directs professional development, information sharing, and collaborative communications related to research campus-wide

     

    - Manages the unit's staff

     

    - Performs related duties as assigned.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

    Salary commensurate with education and experience. $99,279 to $131,440.
