We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Pathology Assistant to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing and managing pathology specimens, ensuring quality assurance, and maintaining laboratory operations efficiently.
Responsibilities
+ Maintain accurate accession records in accordance with established procedures.
+ Accession, label, fix, and direct specimens received in the gross room correctly.
+ Perform grossing with clear, concise, and complete descriptions and dissections.
+ Evaluate specimen condition while ensuring integrity and proper identification.
+ Prioritize tasks to enhance efficiency, production, and output.
+ Coordinate accession activities with clerical and professional staff.
+ Conduct quality audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
+ Ensure availability of proper supplies and maintain a clean, sterile work environment.
+ Monitor and replenish supply levels to meet operational needs.
+ Maintain instruments at optimal performance and perform preventive maintenance per guidelines.
+ Perform duties independently and proactively identify tasks needing attention.
+ Support team members and accept new assignments from supervisors.
+ Provide constructive feedback and suggestions for policy and procedural improvements.
+ Establish and maintain positive rapport with laboratory staff, medical personnel, and hospital staff.
+ Communicate professionally and respectfully at all times.
+ Adhere to hospital and laboratory safety protocols.
+ Report hazards promptly and complete mandatory in-services on time.
+ Assist in maintaining adequate staffing across all shifts, including weekends and holidays.
+ Perform duties in alignment with organizational values, policies, and procedures.
+ Support unit, department, entity, and health system initiatives as assigned.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in histology, specimen processing, and pathology procedures.
+ Experience in laboratory staining, transcription, and specimen collection.
+ Ability to handle microtome and immunohistochemistry tasks effectively.
+ Strong specimen labeling skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ BS in a Life Science (Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Health Sciences).
+ Master’s Degree from a NAACLS-Accredited Program.
+ 2+ years of hands-on experience in Pathology or Histology.
+ ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification required.
Work Environment
The role requires working in a laboratory setting with a focus on maintaining a sterile and safe work environment. The position involves collaborating with medical personnel and laboratory staff and may require working across different shifts, including weekends and holidays. Professionalism and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $57.00/hr.
