    Job Title: Surgical Technologist

    Job Description

    We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team. This role requires a flexible schedule, with the possibility of working four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts per week. The start times can be as early as 6:00 AM and end as late as 4:30 PM. Rotational call coverage may be available after the training period.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform first scrub role, assisting the surgeon by passing sterile instruments and supplies.

    + Anticipate the surgeon’s needs based on case knowledge and prepare accordingly.

    + Differentiate between core and specialty cases within assigned services.

    + Support second scrub role duties, including holding retractors, sponging, or suctioning the operative site, and applying electrocautery within the scope of practice.

    + Collaborate with circulating RN to ensure accurate counts of sterile items per policy.

    + Assist RN in gathering appropriate supplies for surgical cases.

    + Mix and label drugs and solutions for use at the sterile field under supervision.

    + Maintain a supply of fluids, solutions, and medications as directed.

    + Identify and respond to age-specific care needs in coordination with the surgical team.

    + Assist with setup, maintenance, and post-operative care of surgical equipment and supplies.

    + Place equipment and arrange instruments in the OR per instructions.

    + Wash and sterilize equipment following manufacturer guidelines.

    + Assist team members in positioning patients on the OR table under supervision.

    + Perform proper surgical scrub and don gown and gloves; assist others in doing the same.

    + Apply dressings post-surgery as directed.

    + May participate in rotational call coverage after 12 months of experience and training.

    Essential Skills

    + Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or required based on facility standards.

    + Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.

    + Current certification as Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants (or within 12 months of hire date).

    + Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification in adult, child, and infant is required upon hire and maintained.

    + Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization, and OR protocols.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent training.

    + Minimum of 1 year of experience in an operating room setting preferred.

    + Demonstrated ability to perform both first and second scrub roles within the scope of practice.

    + Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and respond effectively during procedures.

    + Familiarity with age-specific care considerations and ability to support team-based patient care.

    + Effective communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary surgical teams.

    + Willingness to participate in rotational call coverage after the training period, if applicable.

    + Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous learning in a fast-paced surgical environment.

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomfield, Connecticut.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
