Job Title: Transportation Dispatcher

Job Description

The Transportation Dispatcher plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely, safe, and efficient movement of materials and goods. Working under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the dispatcher collaborates closely with drivers and logistics personnel to ensure schedules are met and services are optimized.

Responsibilities

+ Schedule and dispatch transportation services and drivers to meet customer demand.

+ Communicate with drivers to ensure timely and efficient service.

+ Monitor routes and adjust them as needed for delivery schedules.

+ Evaluate driver and vehicle performance, considering factors such as mileage, fuel consumption, and planned route schedules.

+ Maintain accurate records of all transportation activities, including receipts, logs, inspection reports, and records of passengers transported.

+ Respond to requests for transportation services from customers, employees, or other sources.

+ Develop and maintain relationships with clients and vendors by providing exceptional customer service and resolving issues promptly.

+ Prepare reports on transportation activities, including safety records, fuel usage, and vehicle maintenance.

+ Track inbound and outbound freight and notify customers of deliveries.

+ Work effectively in a fast-paced team environment with frequent distractions while maintaining a positive attitude.

+ Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

+ High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in logistics, transportation management, or related field preferred.

+ Previous experience in transportation dispatching or logistics management preferred.

+ Knowledge of operational practices, procedures, and regulations related to transportation.

+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

+ Proficient in computer software systems related to dispatching and tracking, specifically related to the transportation industry (e.g., Fleet Management Systems, GPS routing software).

+ Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.

+ Good customer service skills.

+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working with trucking companies.

+ Familiarity with inbound and outbound freight.

+ Experience in customer service and call center environments.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines are used routinely. The role requires average physical strength, including the ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds occasionally. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to handle distractions while maintaining a positive and efficient workflow.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37440.00 - $41600.00/yr.
