    Engineer III - Energy Efficiency

     

    Full-time, exempt

     

    Richard Heath & Associates, Inc. (RHA) is seeking an Engineer III – Energy Efficiency to serve as a technical lead in the research, design, implementation, management, commissioning, and evaluation of energy efficiency projects and programs. This role requires an engineer who is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously. The successful candidate will demonstrate technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems; commissioning and retro-commissioning (RCx); energy savings analysis; cost-effectiveness modeling; and program budget development. The Engineer III will also mentor junior staff and contribute to industry leadership through training, tool development, and presentations.

     

    This position is fully on-site and based at our Santa Fe Springs office.

     

    MUST HAVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY EXPERIENCE.

    Essential Functions:

    Engineering & Energy Analysis

     

    + Perform complex analyses of energy efficiency measures using engineering principles, empirical data, or prior research.

    + Conduct ASHRAE Level I/II energy audits, feasibility studies, and building energy analyses using modeling tools (DOE-2, eQuest, EnergyPlus, Trace, etc.).

     

    Commissioning & Retro-Commissioning (Cx/RCx/MBCx)

     

    + Lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts, from initial site assessments through implementation verification and reporting.

    + Conduct functional performance testing, utilize BAS trend data, and deploy diagnostic tools/data loggers to optimize building system performance.

    + Prepare commissioning documentation, verification reports, and corrective action plans.

     

    Tool & Training Development

     

    + Design and develop calculation tools, online platforms, and mobile apps according to program requirements.

    + Develop and deliver technical training to RHA staff, clients, and external partners.

     

    Program Implementation & Support

     

    + Analyze, design, and support solutions for multiple energy efficiency and commissioning programs.

    + Determine cost-effectiveness of measures and confirm incentive eligibility per regulatory requirements.

     

    Data Management & Documentation

     

    + Retrieve, compile, and validate program data; resolve discrepancies to ensure reporting accuracy.

    + Prepare project documentation, including technical studies, project manuals, and business cases.

     

    Technology Identification & Evaluation

     

    + Identify emerging energy efficiency and building automation technologies.

    + Conduct energy savings studies and financial analyses to support prescriptive and custom program measures.

     

    Industry Leadership

     

    + Deliver presentations and represent RHA in industry forums, client engagements, and technical conferences.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent experience.

    + 5+ years of experience in energy efficiency, commissioning, retro-commissioning, or related energy engineering fields.

    + Proficiency with CAD, Microsoft Office Suite, energy modeling tools, and BAS diagnostic platforms.

    + Strong understanding of building systems: HVAC, BAS, refrigeration, lighting, motors, pumps, compressed air, and controls.

    + Knowledge of building and energy codes (ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24, IECC, etc.).

    + Strong project management and communication skills, including client engagement and report preparation.

    + Excellent command of English (written and verbal).

     

    Salary: $100,000 - $115,000

     

    The stated salary represents the expected compensation for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as the candidate's experience, education and location.
