    The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy.

     

    The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.

     

    Take the lead on subsurface investigations, groundwater monitoring, and corrective action activities across solid and hazardous waste facilities. You'll review permits, assess compliance, guide technical teams, and support regulatory enforcement—ensuring environmental integrity through expert geological analysis and strategic oversight.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A bachelor's degree in a geoscience field or geological engineering.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    Lead subsurface investigations and groundwater monitoring activities at assigned solid and hazardous waste sites.

     

    Review and evaluate complex permit applications, modifications, and corrective action reports for regulatory compliance.

     

    Provide expert technical assistance to leadership on permitting issues, groundwater programs, and enforcement actions.

     

    Represent the department in hearings and public meetings, delivering presentations on groundwater remediation projects.

     

    Mentor junior geologists, offering guidance and training in subsurface interpretation and geological review techniques.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment, job appointment (a temporary appointment not to exceed four years), or promotion of permanent classified employee. If the position is filled as a job appointment, it could be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available.

     

    Domicile: East Baton Rouge Parish

     

    Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Geologist 1, 2, or 3.

     

    Compensation: This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

     

    + Geologist 1: $22.57 per hour

    + Geologist 2: $25.84 per hour

    + Geologist 3: $29.59 per hour
