A Brief Overview
Stanford Health Care is seeking a results-oriented senior executive with in-depth knowledge and experience in hospital and provider pricing and pricing transparency to join our Finance team.
The Sr. Director will align pricing structure and strategy across the system with organizational efforts around pricing transparency. Works closely with colleagues in Decision Support, Financial Planning and Analysis, Strategic Finance, Managed Care Contracting, Revenue Cycle, Technology and Digital Solutions, Operations, Patient Experience and Marketing to ensure the strategy and intent of our approach is understood across the organization.
Price Transparency – The Sr. Director will lead response to regulator and payer requirements for price transparency and lead organizational response to media relations inquiries. The Sr. Director will develop and oversee the organization's response to requirements such as CMS Machine-Readable File, Shoppable Items & Services, No Surprises Act and other transparency regulations for hospitals and providers. The Sr. Director will develop and oversee Stanford Health Care's pricing transparency strategy, ensuring it is aligned with these requirements, as well as has buy-in from leadership across Stanford Medicine.
Strategic Pricing – The Sr. Director is responsible for leading the organization in development of a principled system-wide strategy and approach to defensible pricing/charging across the enterprise. To effectively develop this strategy, the Sr. Director must understand Stanford Health Care's value proposition and strategic positioning, and work closely with teams across Operations, Strategy, and Finance to understand how to thoughtfully implement pricing changes.
The Sr. Director must work effectively by leveraging both direct and indirect reports to coordinate complex workstreams.

What you will do
+ Works with C-suite and executive leadership from across Stanford Medicine to develop a set of guiding principles that govern the enterprise approach to pricing transparency.
+ Considers regulatory requirements (existing and expected), patient experience and satisfaction, ensuring viability of Stanford Medicine and ongoing ability to meet the health system’s tripartite mission of clinical excellence, research, and teaching.
+ Oversees a strategic council of executive leaders in the development and communication of our broad enterprise approach to pricing transparency readiness and defensible strategic pricing/charging.
+ Maintains the Pricing Transparency Organizational website to ensure content (i.e., CMS hospital machine-readable file) to meet the regulatory requirements.
+ Provides executive leadership in price development and transparency, ensuring compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.
+ Leads Executive Council and coordinate across enterprise for pricing/charging and price transparency requirements, including executives from:
+ Patient Experience
+ Operations
+ Clinical leadership
+ Finance leadership (Managed care contracting, Financial Planning and Analysis, etc.)
+ Revenue Cycle
+ Marketing / Communications / PR
+ Technology and Digital Solutions
+ Develops and maintains timely publishing and submission of federal and state pricing transparency regulatory reporting requirements.
+ Engages with key stakeholders across multiple projects and work streams.
+ Works closely with and communicates findings directly to senior SHC and SOM management.
+ Strategic Pricing and Analysis
+ Works with C-suite and executive leadership from across Stanford Medicine to develop a set of guiding principles that govern the enterprise approach to defensible and rational pricing/charging.
+ Aligns pricing approach and priorities with enterprise strategy, balancing Stanford Medicine’s tri-partite mission of excellence in clinical care, education, and research.
+ Serves as Thought leader in analysis and approach to pricing/charging, ensuring CDM (HB and PB) are in alignment, and rationally priced.
+ Develops and executes rigorous analytic approach for pricing of new services, as well as revisiting current prices in ad hoc manner (as necessary).
+ Works to establish governance for all pricing approaches.
+ Develops and oversees policies that provide structure and guidance to all pricing efforts, including Self-pay, cash pay, International Medicine, various fee schedules, and organizations.
+ Partners with Strategic Finance and Managed Care Contracting in development of an approach to assessing participation in value-based care arrangements.
+ Synchronizes pricing efforts with managed care contract negotiations.
+ Synchronizes pricing efforts, principles, and analysis with counterparts in Finance, across the organization, and enterprise (SMP, Tri-Valley counterparts).
+ Works closely with executives and physician leadership at the Stanford University School of Medicine to align with and develop rationale for pricing and pricing changes.
+ Partners with Revenue Integrity and Patient Financial Services in development, execution, and governance of pricing updates.
+ Provides analytic support and expertise, as needed, to Managed Care Contracting Team.
+ Works closely with colleagues in Decision Support, Market Development, and Business Operations to advise on price/charging strategy for new locations and sites of service.
+ Oversees team of consultants and analysts in strategic pricing modeling effort.
+ Generates creative, action-oriented insights and recommendations.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university
+ Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred
Experience Qualifications
+ Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, including supervisory experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
+ Strong understanding of pricing transparency regulatory and legislative pressures impacting health care systems and providers.
+ In-depth knowledge of hospital and professional pricing, managed care contracting, chargemaster structure, including revenue codes, CPT codes, HCPCs codes, and charge codes along with healthcare reimbursement models.
+ Direct experience owning and developing analytically rigorous pricing strategy for hospital and professional fee.
+ Coaching, management of direct reports.
+ Leadership of cross-functional initiatives and projects.
+ Presentation of findings to key SOM, SHC, TV and SMP executives and leadership.
+ Coordination and leadership on collaborative workstreams with counterparts at SOM, LPCH
+ Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
+ Very strong problem-solving skills.
+ Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills, with ability to think conceptually.
+ Ability to structure documents (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, memoranda) and quantitative analyses (i.e., Excel models) and to effectively communicate with senior management.
+ Strong written, oral, and presentation-based communication skills.
+ Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to thrive in a project-based environment with a closely intertwined team.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $119.11 - $157.83 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
