Salary: $1890 / Week
The Teacher for the Visually Impaired provides students with appropriate learning experiences and activities designed to help them in social, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher for the Visually Impaired organizes and implements an instructional program for visually impaired students.
Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positive manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
+ Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, Braille literacy, and the use of assistive technologies.
+ Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media evaluations.
+ Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and classroom materials.
+ Instruct students in orientation and mobility skills.
+ Maintain detailed records of student progress and educational outcomes.
+ Participate in IEP meetings, team discussions, and community outreach.
+ Advocate for the needs and rights of students with visual impairments.
+ Train classroom staff and parents on adaptive equipment and strategies.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
+ State certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired.
+ Proficiency in Braille and tactile learning tools.
+ Knowledge of assistive technologies and adaptive educational software.
+ Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational setting.
+ Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
+ Familiarity with special education laws and policies.
Preferred Skills:
+ Understanding of orientation and mobility principles.
+ Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
+ Commitment to ongoing professional development.
