Job Summary
As the Research Analyst, this key individual will support the wide-ranging public policy analysis activities of the center, to include providing analytical rigor in the writing of the State of the Commonwealth Report, State of the Region Report, the Economic Forecasting Project, and analysis of labor markets and economic conditions in Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth of Virginia. To support and enable the production of these reports, the Research Analyst/Senior Research Analyst will retrieve data from a variety of public and private sources, conduct or support data analyses, and write reports for recurring and reimbursable projects. The Analyst will advise graduate students and contract personnel assigned to Dragas projects.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Business, Public Policy, Political Science or a related field or bachelor’s degree in the preceding fields of study with related work experience equivalent to a Master’s degree.
+ Practicable working knowledge of economic principles and methods including the collection of economic data and the analysis of economic data using computer applications such as R, PYTHON , SPSS and/or SAS , Microsoft Office (Access, Excel and Word) for data analysis.
+ Strong technical skills, data analysis and problem solving in an operational environment.
+ Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships to work effectively with users in remote locations.
+ Demonstrated ability to read, analyze and interpret financial and economic data and then communicate that information in numerical and narrative form for Center reports and presentations.
+ Demonstrated ability to produce and manage high-impact presentation materials using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required for this position.
+ Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced, high-pressure environment; meet deadlines, manage and prioritize multiple tasks; and demonstrate a high level of organization working under minimal supervision.
+ Excellent business acumen, demonstrating the ability to make good judgements and quick decisions with respect to business situations.
+ Prior working experience analyzing data and writing results that are accessible to a variety of audiences.
+ Some prior experience performing research in academic or business-related settings; researching and formatting economic data.
+ Some prior experience in basic computer software programming routines; familiarity with data analysis and manipulation using statistical software or programming language such as R and Stata.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s degree in Economics preferred
