Responsibilities The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) aircraft ordnance systems mechanic. To test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair egress/jettison systems on board conventional/nuclear certified aircraft supported by the organization; provide training to and evaluation of all assigned personnel, e.g. Active Duty, Reservists, Civilians, Contractors and Foreign military, as required, in the accomplishment of duties set forth herein. DUTIES: DUTY 1: Accomplishes scheduled inspections of egress systems and system components. Performs integrity inspections of the escape system. Inspects egress systems, subsystems, and components for safety, security, and serviceability. Inspects and determines serviceability of cartridge activated devices (CAD), pressure activated devices (PAD) and electro-explosive devices (EED) based on shelf and service life limits. DUTY 2: Removes, installs, modifies, repairs, services, replaces, and overhauls complex integrated egress/jettison system components, both on and off equipment. Removes, installs and replaces seats, actuators, switches, hatches/canopies, flex drive cables, rocket catapult, clamps, hardware, defective valves, sensors, ducting, Anti-G hoses, emergency oxygen components, shielded mild detonation cords (SMDC), detonation transfer assemblies (DTA), frangible bolts, shock propagation cord (SPC), flexible linear shape charges (FLSC), circular linear shape charges (CLSC), electrical explosive devices (EED), CAD/PAD items, etc. Repairs and rebuilds Line Replaceable Units (LRU). DUTY 3: Performs troubleshooting and operational checks of complex integrated egress and canopy/hatch jettison systems, on and off equipment, in support of assigned and/or transient aircraft to include support equipment. Advises on and solves installation, maintenance, and repair problems by studying schematic and technical publications. DUTY 4: Utilizes safety practices and tool control procedures to maintain a safe and clean work area. Strictly adheres to safety procedures, regulations and promptly reports any observed or identified violations in accordance with established guidelines. Prepares and executes effective training plans to maximize training for all assigned personnel, e.g., Active Duty, Reservist, Civilians, Contractors and foreign military. Complies with required instruction, guidance and/or training and provides instruction, guidance and training to others while maintaining personal qualifications. DUTY 5: Reviews, verifies and documents aircraft forms, component forms/tags and Maintenance Information Systems (MIS) to reflect maintenance actions performed on and off equipment. Documents/recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting malfunctions, initiating product quality deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data, and assists in design changes as necessary. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG 6600-Armament Work Group. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG 6600-Armament Work Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the job of an AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC with little to no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to use special and standard test equipment, support equipment, maintenance stands, gauges, measuring devices and hand tools. Knowledge of Time Change requirements and processes and a variety of technical data such as manufacturer's handbooks and specifications, technical orders, operating instructions and special instructions relative to explosive or incendiary device and safety precautions related thereto. Knowledge of egress and jettison systems used on assigned aircraft and the practices, methods, and processes necessary to test, troubleshoot, inspect, modify and repair them. Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles associated with egress and jettison systems Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprints. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time and attendance, budgeting instructions, guidelines, requirements and basic computer applications and usage. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures. Ability to communicate both orally and written and to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures and the safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of tool, equipment, and materials accounting and security. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment. Drug Test requirement was modified with AFI 90-508, Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program, 28 August 2014; Certified Current 18 December 2015 which supersedes AFI 44-107, 7 April 2010. Positions covered by this SPD must be reviewed for proper "Testing Designated Position (TDP)" coding to comply with the AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program (AFI 90-508). Drug testing is a condition of employment. The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds). Light lifting (under 15 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 pounds). Light carrying (under 15 pounds). Required to do straight pulling, pushing, walking, standing crawling, bending, kneeling, reaching above shoulders and climbing. Working in cramped and strained positions. Operation of crane, truck, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Hearing (without aid). All personnel SHALL receive a near vision acuity test, either: Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 inches (30.48 cm) or 20/25(Snellen) at 16' (40.64 cm) ±1' (2.54cm), annually while certified. The near vision test is required for only one eye either natural or corrected. When vision correction is necessary to pass the visual acuity exam, vision correction SHALL be worn during all inspections. All personnel SHALL receive a color perception test prior to initial certification. If it can be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in/on aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, humidity and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids (oil, hydraulic, fuel, sealants, solvents, hazardous fluids, particulates, and gases). Commonly works with explosives systems and components. Potentially exposed to Hydrazine, Halon, and/or composites, electrical shocks, RF radiation, explosive hazards and Low Observable (LO). Subject to eye/body damage due to exposure to LASERs. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast. Working closely with others or working alone. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
