    Job Description

    A leading power client of Insight Global is seeking a Substation Designer to join their team in Leawood, KS! In this role, you’ll focus on creating physical substation layouts while also helping to develop design standards and procedures. You’ll work closely with engineers and project teams to deliver accurate, high-quality designs that support construction and operations. This is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills, stay current with industry codes, and contribute to the growth of an in-house engineering team.

    Responsibilities

    - Design physical layouts for substations, including bus arrangements and related components.

     

    - Prepare and develop drawings, layouts, and calculations for production work.

     

    - Review 3D models for interferences and constructability issues.

     

    - Resolve drawing comments and ensure updates are implemented.

     

    - Complete as-built documentation using RFIs, ECNs, and red-lined drawings.

     

    - Support the development and implementation of design standards, templates, and procedures.

     

    - Interpret and apply design codes and specifications.

     

    - Ensure designs meet requirements for safety, quality, operability, and maintenance.

     

    - Collaborate with structural and electrical engineers as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

     

    - Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies, applying them to improve design practices.

    Skills and Requirements

    - 7+ years of experience as an electrical designer

    • 2+ of those years need to be within power generation OR gas generation OR fossil fuels

    • MUST HAVE TOUCHED A SUBSTATION

    • Experience doing equipment layouts (screening question)

     

    - Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings

     

    - Basic understanding of design software such as: PLSCAD OR E3D OR Plant 3D OR AutoCAD OR MicroStation
