    Job Details:

    Job Summary:

    The primary purpose of the Director, OR Throughput is to optimize workflows in the OR in order to produce the highest clinical quality outcomes, cost effective care and customer satisfaction. Specifically, the Director, OR Throughput functions within the operating rooms for Main OR, MFCH OR, and Ambulatory Surgery to integrate and streamline activities of all members of the surgical services team including physicians, nurses, surgical scrub technicians, equipment technicians, PCTs, unit clerks, case cart specialists, radiology technicians, and others. The Director, OR Throughput will focus on and be evaluated on operational metrics such as on time case starts, OR capacity utilization, lead time from add-on case "booking time" to "patient –in time", etc. The Director, OR Throughput is a positive role model, skilled communicator/facilitator and hands –on team leader who regularly leads the coordination efforts required to facilitate surgeries performed each day. The Director, OR Throughput has extensive knowledge of the DNV Sentinel Events and Action Plans, AORN Standards, National Patient Safety Goals, Patient Bill of Rights, Department of Health Standards, Policy and Procedure and Patient/Family Centered Principles and emphasizes patient safety in each practice and policy.

    Responsibilities:

    + Oversight of the entire OR schedule – inclusive to all 3 operating areas (CHOR, ACP, MAIN).

    + Collaborating with anesthesia board runner.

    + Collaborating with and providing guidance to the charge nurses in each location.

    + Liaison between ORs and front desk.

    + Oversees daily work schedules and assignments to assure that operative suites are prepared for cases.

    + Provides clear performance expectations to direct reports and all team members.

    + Integrates mentorship principles to retain staff.

    + Develops respectful care team member relationship.

    + Facilitation of cases by constant communication with surgeons, staff and floors; ensuring preop documentation is complete.

    + Conducts morning huddle.

    + Works closely with Nursing Directors and assumes indirect oversight of the command center desk.

    + Active participation and collaboration running Anesthesia Track Board with Anesthesia runner.

    + Collaborate with Head Nurse(s) to coordinate lunches and dynamic staffing challenges daily.

    + Liaison between ORs, Front Desk and periop leadership.

    + Communication with DOO and periop leadership throughout the day; provide end of day report.

    + In collaboration with the DOO, Monitor TOT and barriers to delays.

    + Proactively follow up on delays and communicate timeframes for resolutions.

    + Maintains a clean and organized work area.

    + Provides process improvement suggestions to Periop Leadership.

    + Employs sound judgment in use of the disciplinary process to manage staff behavior that does not respond to education or team building efforts.

    + Develops and implements work plans with accountable components and measurable outcomes.

    + Eliminates barriers and roadblocks that impede progress.

    + Applies dynamics in team building, problem solving and CQI.

    + Identifies and addresses problems undermining effectiveness.

    + Promotes professional communication between care team members.

    + Follows up on all issues, problems and plans to assure change implementation and sustainment. Is pro-active in demonstrating this with timely reports that reflect effectiveness of actions taken and assuring communication with staff and engaging their participation in sustaining the change.

    + Maintains and analyzes performance reports and makes recommendations for improvement related to (but not limited to):

    + OR turn- around time

    + On time starts

    + Surgical instrument processing issues

    + OR equipment utilization

    + Case delays

    + Case cancellations

    + Completes assignments on or before deadlines.

    + Provides clear direction when delegating work.

    + Uses logical, systematic and orderly procedures to meet objectives and demonstrates agility in adapting to change.

    + Understands and adheres to WMC's compliance standards.

    + Performs other related duties as assigned (may be clinical).

    + Oversees and creates a safe patient environment.

    + Applies Sentinel Event Alerts recommendation/assimilation of practice changes.

    + Encourages staff to report when things "go wrong" or could potentially "go wrong".

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    Experience:

    5-7 years’ experience in Perioperative Services with a proven ability to achieve performance improvement goals and patient care enhancements, required.

    Education:

    Associate’s degree, required. Bachelors, preferred.

    Licenses / Certifications:

    NYS RN license, required.
