    Job Description:

    The purpose of this position is to assist in duties and activities associated with supporting clinical research and research studies at Intermountain Healthcare. A key responsibility of this position is to provide support to clinical research coordinators, clinical investigators, physicians, nurses, department managers and other staff.

    Scope

    1.Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behaviorstandards.

    2. Performs other duties as assigned.

    3. Required to float to all departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.

    4. Collaborates closely with the RN Leader to coordinate technical patient care activities and maintain quality of care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

    5. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

    6. Obtains patients vital signs to include blood pressure, pulse and temperature and understands normal ranges and changes. Informs RNs or Physician of changes in vital signs.

    7. Collects blood, urine, saliva and stool samples for laboratory analysis.

    8. Inserts Foley catheters, performs straight catheters, and provides wound care.

    9. Fits patients for casts and/or hard splints, crutches and other devices.

    10. Performs 12-lead EKGs.

    11. Provides instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients.

    12. Assists with the safe movement of patients, applying principles of safe patient handling.

    13. Assists with admitting patients, schedules patient transfers, and reinforces patient education/discharge instructions as given by the RN.

    14. Apply, check and document restraints as directed by the RN or Physician.

    15. Performs the duties of unit secretary. Maintains patient charts, responds to phone calls, maintains daily assignment board, provides equipment care/cleaning, performs errands associated with patient care and provides accurate information about the patient with interdisciplinary team.

    16. Assists and responds to all overhead alerts. Assists RN and Physician within their scope of practice.

    17. Maintain competency in procedures being performed on patients, including but not limited to, safe patient handling, specimen collection, transport, obtaining vital signs, placing IV catheters, placing foley catheters, dressing changes, wound care, and any other competency based skills.

    18. Assists and supports staff in problem solving and responding to situations related to patient care, resource management, physician concerns, risk management, associate safety, and Hospital Safety.

    19. Oversees training and orientation of new Clinical Resource Technicians.

    20. Collaborates with lead RN and adjusts assignments for hospital needs during the shift.

    21. Communicates with lead RN and other leadership members about census, staffing, potential problems, and observations on the flow of all departments.

    22. Supports lead RN and the management team in managing hospital productivity, coordinating hospital activities, and facilitating change processes.

    23. Advocates for staff, patients, and any department concerns.

    24. Collaborates with staff to ensure hospital cleanliness, stocking, and regulatory checks are performed.

    25. Participates in team meetings and hospital committees as CRT representative.

    26. Works with Leadership to establish agenda items in preparation for Professional Development Meetings.

    27. Performs daily checks on core measure items to assist RN and leadership with audits and quality patient care.

    28. Assists with evaluations and coaching associates.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    High School Diploma or equivalent Completion of Basic EMT training program or Paramedic Training is required in the state of practice

     

    Current Basic EMT or Paramedic license in state of practice is required Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLSHCP)certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval Current IV Certification in state of practice is required

     

    Minimum 1 year experience as an EMT Minimum 1 year working in Hospital Setting

     

    Preferred

     

    Ultrasound Guided IV Certification

     

    3+ years experience as EMT in Hospital Setting

    Physical Requirements:

    Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).- and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

     

    $19.87 - $28.31
