Groundwater Treatment System Mechanic/Operator, Middleport, NY
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Maintenance Mechanic/Groundwater Treatment System Operator to work on a full-time basis in **Western New York at a Middleport New York location** .
Parsons maintains and operates a 250 GPM groundwater/surface water recovery and treatment system. The treatment system employs a number of physical and chemical treatment unit operations including: air stripping, activated carbon, ion exchange, and metals precipitation to treat water for discharge.
What you'll be doing:
Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of tasks in support of the proper operation and maintenance of a recovery system and water treatment plant.
+ Primary responsibility will be to maintain operating functions of the water treatment plant including the mechanical/electrical and control systems. Plant functions include the collection of groundwater from recovery wells and underdrain sumps. Transfer of recovered water to collection tank and treatment of water for discharge. The maintenance mechanic is primarily responsible for the continued operation and routing repair/replacement of this equipment, maintenance of records, contractor oversite and procurement. Perform various monitoring and troubleshooting activities throughout the Plant and Well House areas.
+ In addition to maintenance responsibilities, the hire will also be periodically called upon to operate the treatment system operator, working as needed, As an operator, employees will work closely with other operators to ensure proper function and maintenance of the system.
+ Daily operation of treatment facilities includes operation of the pumping and controls equipment, calibration of metering and monitoring equipment, and performance of basic field laboratory tests. Collect samples and maintain documentation in record logs. Perform routine laboratory analytical testing associated with day-to-day operation/optimization of the treatment process.
+ May perform non-treatment system related tasks to support operations such as owing, parking area snow removal, fueling of work vehicle, minor housekeeping/painting and working with subcontractors on non-routine projects.
+ To ensure compliance with operating requirements, documentation of activities and system data requires the use of record logs. The system is operated via standard operating procedures (SOPs) and therefore compliance with such procedures is necessary. Prepares required field and maintenance reports.
+ Equipment operation will include site utility trucks, pumps, generators, forklift, and other machinery/equipment.
+ Typically workdays are 7am -3pm but occasional seasonal shift work is required for around-the-clock coverage
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
+ High School diploma, or equivalent, and typically 4+ years of related work experience, or an associate’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of experience.
+ Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and maintenance aptitude/experience essential.
+ Experience with the operation and maintenance of chemical addition systems reactors, pumping systems, mixing systems, clarification and filter press systems is a plus.
+ Knowledge of automated control systems and SCADA is a plus.
+ Completion of a 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA training course (with an annual 8-hour update- current preferred, expired acceptable) is preferred for industrial or hazardous wastewater operations.
+ Driver’s license in good standing and vehicle.
+ Basic computer skills and experience with email and Microsoft office applications (Word/Excel).
+ Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, and work under inclement weather conditions.

Salary Range: $18.94 - $33.17
