    A Glimpse of the Job

     

    The Director, under direction of the Associate Vice President for Community Partnerships, serves in a key administrative role for community engagement, partnership and community-based education of Texas A&M University Health Science Center (Texas A&M Health) programs delivered in the Rio Grande Valley region. Director maintains responsibility for the day-to-day management, and direction of a department, its personnel or major budget entity. Director coordinates with programmatic partners, fellow Texas A&M Health colleagues, local health education partners, program participants and municipal leaders to enhance visibility of Texas A&M Health impacts, educational opportunities and effective project/partnership management, in concert with appropriate offices, colleges/schools, units, individual faculty and/or research partners, as appropriate.

    Essential Duties/Tasks

    + Administrative Oversight - Oversees daily operations of regional health education and outreach programs personnel, activities, partnerships, collaborations, facilities and operations in accordance with all relevant state, federal, Texas A&M University System, Texas A&M University and Texas A&M Health policies, processes and procedures, in concert with AVP Community Partnerships. Responsible for oversight for all financial matters, including preparation of annual comprehensive budget, impact reporting, financial management operations, approvals and compliance. Performs management and regular review of current/active partnership agreements related to regional health education and outreach of Texas A&M Health, as designated by the AVP Community Partnerships.

    + Personnel Management - Provides oversight of assigned personnel and maintains staffing for effective operations and programming. Ensures staffing requirements, recruitment, hiring, onboarding and trainings for community health education and outreach staff. Performs annual performance evaluations and establishes annual goals for effective time and effort. Adheres to all Texas A&M personnel policies, procedures and best practices for an effective, safe and productive workplace.

    + Programing/Project Coordination - Oversees Texas A&M Health education and outreach programming throughout the Rio Grande Valley region. Responsible for planning and implementation of effective use of resources, meeting partnership and program goals. Provides guidance to staff on program delivery and outcomes. Ensures programmatic reports are developed annually and/or at other intervals as required. Coordinates with other regional health education and outreach leadership, in particular Coastal Bend, for continuity and consistency of program elements. Supports administrative justification and evidence of impact for programming efforts. Serves as member of leadership coordination team for legislatively funded, Healthy South Texas Initiative.

    + Represents Texas A&M Health in Rio Grande Valley - In coordination with AVP Community Partnerships, represent Texas A&M Health in events, meetings, stakeholder planning committees, councils, boards and activities that build and sustain collaborative relationships with stakeholders, municipal entities, and health related entities that further the work of Texas A&M Health in the Rio Grande Valley region.

    + Represents Texas A&M Health on select internal taskforces, committees, reviews and initiative planning as assigned by the AVP Community Partnerships. Consults with faculty, staff and research scholars to support effective health education and outreach programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Education and Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in applicable field

    + 10 years of administrative, project management, or education related fields.

    + 5 years of higher education or health related teaching, research, operations or community education experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + An earned master's degree or other appropriate terminal degree in a health related, business operations or project management field.

    + Should have evidenced success as project leader, personnel management, team-oriented style in matrix organization settings.

    + Understanding of higher education and health related institutions functions, processes, procedures and requirements.

    + Familiarity with Texas A&M University System and its member institutions roles and responsibilities.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively and synergistically with others.

    + Independently responsible for achieving goals and program outcomes,

    + Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and appropriate program management applications.

    + Knowledge of higher education.

    + Oral and written communication skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others across a range of fields and perspectives on behalf of Texas A&M Health and Texas A&M University.

    + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements

    + The main office of this position will be located at: 7012 N. 10th Street McAllen, TX 78504. However, this position's duties and responsibilities will range from Cameron County (Brownsville), Hidalgo County (Weslaco, McAllen), Starr County (Rio Grande City) and Willacy County (Raymondville).
