Director of Academic Partnerships and Research Opportunities (Academic Program Director) – Macaulay Honors College
POSITION DETAILS
Since 1847, The City University of New York has provided a path to success for generations of New Yorkers. In this rich tradition, Macaulay Honors College was established in 2001 as a consortial college linked with eight CUNY partners—Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College of New York, College of Staten Island, Hunter College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Lehman College, and Queens College—to integrate the vast resources of the City University with New York’s cultural, scientific, and business communities. As a top Honors college in the nation, Macaulay offers a first-rate experiential education to high achieving students— especially those who are first generation and low income—along with access to the immersive opportunities that help them achieve big, bold dreams. Under the leadership of its new Dean, Dr. Dara N. Byrne, Macaulay Honors College is on a distinct mission to reimagine equity, excellence, and access.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Academic Partnerships and Research Opportunities plays a central role in the College’s expansion of academic pathways and research opportunities for Macaulay students.
This Director oversees the development, implementation, maintenance, and assessment of strategic academic partnerships that lead to high-value credentials essential for leadership positions in multiple domains, such as undergraduate-to-graduate pipelines and 4+1 pathways within and beyond the CUNY system. Given the importance of high-quality research experiences to successful graduate- and professional-school admission, the Director of Academic Partnerships and Research Opportunities will also oversee undergraduate research initiatives for Academic Affairs, including summer research experience for undergraduates, research symposia, Undergraduate Research Awards, and faculty support and recognition for research mentoring of Macaulay students. All Macaulay students must complete a thesis or capstone experience as part of their graduation requirements, and the Director will facilitate cross-institutional opportunities for students to share their research, with the larger goal of raising the profile of undergraduate research by Macaulay students both within and outside of the consortium.
The ideal candidate for this position is highly organized and has excellent facilitation, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
In addition to the duties outlined in the CUNY Title Overview, the Director’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- In collaboration with the Legal Counsel, identify, negotiate, and establish new partnerships, articulation agreements, and MOUs with external institutions for accelerated programs and undergraduate-to-graduate pipelines.
- Manage existing 4+1 programs and other accelerated degree pathways, including collaborating with partners on recruitment and admissions.
- Collaborate with academic departments, deans, and faculty to align curricula between undergraduate and graduate programs where possible.
- Collaborate with Enrollment Management in the marketing and recruitment strategies to promote accelerated pathways to prospective and current students.
- Assess the success of current and new partnerships and pipelines, including enrollment trends, completion rates, and student outcomes.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with external partners through regular communication and program reviews.
- Coordinate with Financial Aid and other College offices to regularize streamlined processes for students in accelerated programs.
- Develop policies and procedures that govern accelerated and graduate pathways and ensure consistent implementation.
- Collaborate with partner campus Directors and Advisors on advising and promotional materials for accelerated programs and research opportunities.
- Prepare reports and communications for College leadership on partnership outcomes and academic opportunities.
- Oversee co-curricular programming at the College to prepare students for admission to and success in graduate and professional programs, including exploration of graduate and professional school exploration and test preparation.
- Manage the yearly Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards that recognizes and showcases Macaulay student research and faculty mentorship across the consortium.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of a Macaulay honors thesis and capstone archive.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Dean and Chief Academic Officer.
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work in the office.
