About the Department
The inpatient pharmacy at Trinity Health Ann Arbor is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, servicing inpatients, the emergency department, operating rooms and multiple procedural areas.
Clean room operations are accredited by Joint Commission for adherence to the highest standards of USP 797 and 800. Trinity Health Ann Arbor is also the lead location for the national Trinity Health Pharmacy Education and Advancement of Technicians (THE-PEAT) training program to educate pharmacy students to become PTCB, licensed Pharmacy Technicians.
Position Purpose
The Pharmacy Technician Speicalist will assume a focused leadership role in supporting perioperative pharmacy operations. This role is designed to enhance medication safety, inventory control, and staff competency within the surgical environment. Additionally, this position Performs pharmacy supportive functions requiring an advanced level of training and additional levels of responsibility; may focus on team leadership or advanced technical skills. Performs tasks requiring independent judgement, advanced technical skills, and creative problem solving. Demonstrates performance that consistently meets quality assurance standards. The consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected, could result in serious patient injury.

Education:
Minimum of six months specialized training beyond high school.
Experience:
Minimum one-year experience at the pharmacy technician level.
Licensure / Certification:
Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan is required.
Required Skills

+ Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams.
Typical responsibilities:
+ Centralize and streamline oversight of medication inventory levels within the OR, including routine audits and reconciliation of controlled substances in Pyxis Anesthesia Machines.
+ Develop and implement standardized training protocols and competency assessments for OR pharmacy technicians, ensuring consistent performance and adherence to institutional policies.
+ Serve as a dedicated resource for OR staff, providing timely and accurate medication-related support to enhance workflow efficiency and patient safety.
+ Collaborate with pharmacy leadership and anesthesia teams to identify and address narcotic discrepancies, promoting accountability and regulatory compliance.
+ Align OR pharmacy technician practices with national benchmarks and best practices observed at peer institutions. Support internal audits, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development.
