    Overview

     

    HarperCollins is seeking a **Senior Managing Editor** to lead the Harper Editorial team, reporting to the VP, Group Executive Managing Editor.

    Responsibilities

    + Supports the Harper and Ecco editorial teams, handling approximately 200 titles per year for the Harper, Broadside, Ecco, Harper Business, and Harper Influence imprints.

    + Generates and distributes schedules at key book stages. Works knowledgeably and sensitively with the publisher, associate publishers, editorial directors, managing editors, editors, production editors, production managers, and designers to create appropriate and achievable schedules.

    + Problem solves strategically, actively, and independently to make sure books release on time while being published to the highest standards.

    + Works closely with the publisher, associate publisher, and publishing director to identify and implement best practices across publishing teams, as well as execute on opportunity projects.

    + Manages galley schedules, tracks need-by dates, and coordinates galley copy and galley solicitation in conjunction with the galley coordinator and Sales Ops team.

    + Attends seasonal Launch and Positioning meetings and follows up as needed.

    + Enters and maintains metadata and schedules in the title management system, reviews change memos, and tracks book-related materials for other departments.

    + Reviews galley covers, catalog covers, and jackets.

    + Assesses, logs, and assigns manuscripts, and works collaboratively with the production editorial team to troubleshoot crash schedules, knotty conversions, or challenging manuscripts.

    + Works closely with the director of production editorial on key workflows to keep projects on schedule and ensure publication at the highest standards.

    + Conducts weekly production meetings.

    + Works collaboratively with support teams to establish department workflows, standards, and best practices.

    + Supports the VP, Group Managing Editor in implementing workflows and process for best practices across all General Books imprints.

    Qualifications

    + Minimum of 10 years’ managing editorial experience in trade book publishing, including significant production editorial experience.

    + High-level understanding of title management systems, ONIX release schedules, and book metadata requirements.

    + Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

    + Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills; knowledge of industry standards, including the _Chicago Manual of Style_ ; college-level understanding and use of the English language; must be detailed-oriented, well organized, and able to set priorities under pressure.

    + College degree or equivalent work experience.

    + This job requires someone with a can-do, upbeat, and flexible attitude who can foster a positive and congenial environment for other team members and across departments.

    The salary range for this position is $100,000- $120,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
