**Pay Range:** $50.15 - $81.62 per hour

Summary:
Job **Summary:**
The Senior Manager, Flow Cytometry Core Facility, oversees the daily operations, technical support, and service delivery of the Flow Cytometry Core at Rush University Medical Center. This role ensures high-quality support for researchers through equipment management, training, and data services. The Senior Manager collaborates with the other core facility directors, the Director of Core Laboratory Services, course directors and the Office of Research Affairs to maintain efficient workflows, ensure compliance, and support of institutional research priorities. This position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and 5+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience.
• Hands-on experience in flow cytometry, including multicolor panel design and data analysis.
• Knowledge of laboratory tools, equipment and protocols relevant to core facility activities.
• Experience in the provision of scientific services to researchers.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with faculty, researchers and external customers.
• Prior people management experience.
• Ability to manage projects from concept to evaluation.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize projects and workload.
• Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage and work as part of a team.
• Demonstrated willingness to teach and learn new techniques.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• PhD or equivalent in immunology, cell biology, pathology, or related biomedical discipline.
• Extensive hands-on experience in flow cytometry, including multicolor panel design, cell sorting, and data analysis using platforms such as BD, Cytek, or Sony. Experience with relevant flow cytometry software and data analysis.
• Ability to advise investigators on experimental design and troubleshooting for flow cytometry applications across a range of research areas including immunology, oncology, infectious disease, and regenerative medicine.
• Demonstrated success in federal and foundational grant writing, particularly in support of instrumentation, core facility development, or collaborative projects.
• Experience in training/mentoring researchers and staff in technologies and data interpretation.
• Familiarity with cell sorting for the purposes of single cell RNA sequencing.
• Strong track record of research productivity and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Prior educational experience or interest in developing core-related coursework
• A commitment to team science and advancing institutional research priorities.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with and support researchers, staff, and students from across campus and external customers, by providing support and guidance in experimental design, laboratory methodology, sample preparation, data collection and analysis.
• When feasible, perform sample preparation, sample processing, and data analysis on a fee-for-service and as-requested basis. Train and supervise faculty, research and senior research specialists, graduate and undergraduate students in research techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and software.
• Provide technical support and guidance to researchers, staff, and students in experimental design, sample preparation, and data analysis.
• Perform sample preparation, processing, and data analysis on a fee-for-service basis.
• Train and supervise users in flow cytometry techniques, equipment usage, and software tools.
• Support hiring and onboarding of staff in collaboration with CLS/ORA.
• Manage equipment maintenance and service contracts and assist in identifying instrumentation needs.
• Oversee financial management, including budget allocation, billing for services, contract negotiation for instrument purchase and service contracts, and hiring of personnel in collaboration with CLS/ORA.
• Oversee day-to-day operations and identification, selection, and purchase of all laboratory instruments and equipment as well as ensure proper maintenance, including service contracts, and repairs.
• Review and develop laboratory standard operating procedures. Develop, as appropriate, procedures for greater efficiency, reproducibility and accuracy of analyses.
• Work with other core facilities at RUMC to facilitate integrated, cross-platform research support, and promote facility and staff capabilities, and expand the facility user base.
• Work with RUMC researchers to apply for external funding for the acquisition of new and updating of existing instrumentation.
• Work with national organizations such as Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF) to ensure best practices for shared services or facilities, and with research funding agencies and foundations to identify funding opportunities.
• Monitor safety policies and procedures and ensure a safe working environment.
• Work collaboratively to support university-wide core facility strategic initiatives, including educational initiatives, and execute duties within the regulatory, policy and compliance guidelines as set forth by the university.
• Other duties as assigned.
