The Category Leader is responsible for the creation, development and execution of the sourcing strategy and supplier management for the Global Powertrain category and subcategories of engines, transmissions and axles consisting of multiple divisions globally.
This position will lead the global category including coordination work of the cross functional team located in divisions that co-creates and implements the Global Category Strategy. The Category Leader will drive the category strategy and translate business strategy into an aligned one incorporating the Kalmar, Divisions, Operations, and Sourcing strategies into the category strategy and drive the strategy across divisions globally.
The Category leader will create synergies and drive sustainability and decarbonisation improvements among divisions through the category strategy in order to maximize total acquisition cost together with sustainable and operational performance across Kalmar to secure benchmark total cost of ownership as well as driving profitability and growth.

What are your key responsibilities:
Through Category Leadership this person will drive:
+ Leading new thinking and approaches to category vision and leadership that delivers continual improvement and growth, customer satisfaction, return on investment and solutions for customers, divisions and suppliers
+ Bringing Category analytical discipline, innovation, disruptive technology, new business opportunities, process improvement, and cost efficiencies
+ Providing insight to the business division(s), R&D, & Operations on how to best develop and leverage Supplier capabilities for the organization(s).
+ Leading change for the organization to continuously adapt to a dynamic business environment, organizational challenges and ever-changing priorities
+ Primary point of contact for overall category needs. Responsible for prioritizing demand globally across the category.
+ Collaboration with key stakeholders in Divisions, Operations, R&D, Sales, and Finance to gather all of the key input to develop key cost reduction, technology, and customer centric strategies. Will ensure implementation of the Strategy.
+ Aligning & balancing division and customer growth objectives and Category actions so every customer and division solution is mutually beneficial.
+ Influence new product development by providing actionable insights and solutions that support objectives for customer, division, operations and R&D.
+ Identify specific research opportunities and leverage insights and resources through the utilization of a broad range of data sources, market research findings, tools, analysis and technology to bring new learning to category leadership solutions
Leadership
+ Responsible for category leadership; setting expectations, coaching, providing vision, encouraging participation in decision making, developing competence, providing constructive feedback in a timely manner.
+ Setting tone, motivation common purpose and specific expectations for cross functional team
and direct reports where applicable to ensure success in the achievement of the business goals.
+ Communication link between Kalmar objectives and wider category team
+ Deploying resources wisely, timely and creatively
+ Review LEAD, GROW, Compass, and additional feedback to develop leadership style to continuously improve leadership to the category team
+ Participate as an active member of the Sourcing Leadership Team providing leadership, direction, and support to the Category, Division and Supplier Development organizations.
Influencer & Relationship Manager
+ Closely collaborate with operations, R&D and division sourcing leaders ensuring impactful category strategy implementation.
+ Responsibility to build and maintain relations with the largest cross-divisional Kalmar supplies within the category on Kalmar level as part of the SRM process
+ Establish and lead collaboration between key suppliers, R&D, supplier development, and the divisions to provide the innovation capabilities and capacity required to drive delivery and quality performance for business growth, cash and margin improvements to secure “best customer” focus at suppliers.
+ Communicate Category vision and strategy to key stakeholders and the link between this and the Kalmar/Operations/Division/ strategies
+ Financial risk management of suppliers within SRM scope of the category together with sourcing controller.
What you bring to the role
Education:
+ Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management or Engineering, MBA preferred
Qualifications:
+ At least 8 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, and Supply Management.
+ Sourcing experience with Steel
Skills:
+ Strong Negotiation and relationship building skills
+ Successful collaboration with key stakeholders and ability to develop and maintain relationships at the executive level
+ Strong communication, presentation and writing skills
+ Ability to gather relevant information systematically; consider a broad range of issues or factors; grasp complexities and perceive the relationship among problems or issues; seek input from others
+ Build an effective team committed to organizational goals; foster collaboration among team members
+ Demonstrate resourcefulness to effectively leverage and focus resources across organizational and geographic boundaries
Knowledge:
+ Full understanding of cost breakdowns
+ Understanding of the supply chain and cost drivers for the category
+ Knowledge of Cargotec products
+ Knowledge of Strategy building and implementation
Experience:
+ Management experience gained in a large multinational company with a matrix organizational structure essential.
+ Budget and business plan development and implementation.
+ Extensive experience in working with global teams and executing manufacturing/sourcing transfers is necessary.
+ Experience with Steel Category Strategy development and implementation
Competencies:
+ Exceptional integrity; operating at the highest level of ethical standards is required
+ Ability to cope with ambiguity and complexity is necessary
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and relationships while remaining focused on the key deliverables is key.
+ Senior level development and implementation of long term business relationships and/or strategy in business or operations.
