The Department of Clinical Studies-New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in large animal reproduction. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong interest in equine reproduction. The position will be in the Associated Faculty in the Academic Clinician (AC) track, which focuses on clinical service and teaching. A typical division of effort for faculty in the AC track at New Bolton Center is 90% time on clinics, including clinical service and clinical teaching, and 10% time off clinics for academic efforts. Didactic and laboratory teaching and administrative or other service duties are included in both on- and off-clinic time.

The successful candidate is expected to enhance the clinical and teaching missions of the Section of Reproduction and Behavior and the Hofmann Center for Animal Reproduction. New Bolton Center is home to five Diplomates of the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT), one Board-certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, who is also an Honorary Member of the ACT, and two residents in training for ACT board-certification. Candidates with a strong interest in equine reproduction are encouraged to apply with the opportunity and support to further specialize in male or female reproduction. The large clinical caseload at New Bolton Center also offers many opportunities for reproduction work in non-equine species. The Hofmann Center accommodates an active in-house clinical reproduction practice supported by advanced technologies in mare reproductive diagnosis, treatment and management; stallion breeding soundness evaluation and breeding management; embryo transfer; transvaginal follicle aspiration for oocyte recovery; stallion and mare behavior evaluation and therapy; and interaction with the Penn Equine Assisted Reproduction Laboratory (PEARL), which conducts clinical work and research in in vitro embryo production . In addition, Section members provide reproductive services at New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals, including management of healthy and high-risk pregnancy cases. Section members partner with the Neonatal Intensive Care and the Emergency and Critical Care Services of the Hospital to oversee reproductive emergency cases. Additional clinical opportunities include on-farm equine reproductive management for breeding centers in the service area.
The internationally renowned New Bolton Center Hospital for Large Animals enjoys one of the highest caseloads among peer institutions, admitting almost 7000 patients in 2024. The Department of Clinical Studies – New Bolton Center is home to over 40 diplomates of American and European specialty colleges who are in direct support of the program, including 14 double-boarded individuals. High-quality clinical and didactic teaching is expected of CE faculty, and students enrolled at Penn Vet are highly qualified, motivated, and eager to learn. The 26 Clinician-Educators and 10 Tenure-track faculty perform the majority of the Department’s research . AC clinicians are not expected to drive independent research, and there is no research requirement in this position. However, if interested, AC faculty have the opportunity to engage in and/or collaborate on all facets of research, including participating in research design, enrolling clinical cases in research trials, and contributing to manuscript preparation.

Qualifications include a DVM/VMD (or equivalent) degree and Diplomate status or eligibility for certification by the American College of Theriogenologists or the European College of Animal Reproduction. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a broad set of clinical skills and interests.
