Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a (Principal) Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will support the Advanced Programs Mission Engineering Team and focus on performing operational analyses for both offensive and defensive weapon systems. Other modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) projects will be within scope.
Domestic travel will be required with an estimated percentage of 10-25%, but frequency will depend on team needs.
This position will specifically focus on the development and analysis of models and simulations utilizing the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM) Framework. Additionally, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to perform the following scope of work:
+ Select, define, and develop, appropriate representations of a system(s) or system element(s)
+ Use appropriate representations of a system(s) or system element(s) in order to derive information about the real system
+ Interpret and use the outcomes of modeling and analysis
+ Support briefings to various levels of leadership regarding the MS&A project plan, status, and outcome
Basic Qualifications
+ T2 -Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer: Bachelors of Science and 2 years of related experience or Masters of Science and 0 years of related experience. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered ‘in lieu of’ a degree.
+ T3 Principal Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer: Bachelors of Science and 5 years of related experience, Masters of Science and 3 years of related experience, or PhD and 1 year of related experience. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered ‘in lieu of’ a degree.
+ Demonstrated experience with threat and weapon system modeling
+ Experience with digital threads (specs, digital models, simulation, etc.)
+ Proficient with MATLAB or Python
+ Demonstrated experience using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
+ Comfortable communicating technical information to technical and non-technical customers
+ Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting, both virtually and in-person
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope (< 6 years), with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s or higher degree in Systems Engineering or other Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree
+ Active U.S. Government DoD Top Secret Clearance, current and within scope (< 6 years)
+ Experience using agile development methodologies
+ Domain knowledge in missile defense or offensive military capabilities
+ Experience with multi-resolution conceptual model development, verification, and validation processes to develop simulations to address questions on military operations
+ High level of skill or certification in data analytics or military operations research to include experience in: statistics, data cleaning, data mining, data visualization, or experience with R, SQL, Python, Power BI, or Tableau
+ INCOSE ASEP (or above) certification

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $78,200.00 - $115,800.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
