    Description of Work Unit

    The Division of Title IX and OEO is committed to Colorado State University’s values and Principles of Community by promoting the health and safety of the University community and fostering the health, well-being, and successful experience of community members. Our purpose is to support university community members during the conduct of complaint investigations and conduct impartial, objective, and equitable investigations of complaints of sexual assault, sexual misconduct, and interpersonal violence. The Office is also responsible for training university community members on Title IX and responsible employee reporting obligations, how to prevent, identify, and report sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, gender discrimination, and gender-based violence. The office also connects those affected by sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, gender discrimination, and gender-based violence with university and community resources and support.

    Position Summary

    The Civil Rights Investigator is responsible for understanding and investigating Federal and State laws, regulations and related guidance regarding investigations of discrimination, sexual harassment, harassment, and retaliation complaints including ADA , Title VII , Title IX, Title VI, VAWA , sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.

     

    This position is primarily responsible for investigating allegations of discrimination, sexual harassments, sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking and retaliation, writing investigation reports, and being a witness in live hearings for Title IX cases.

     

    Adherence to confidentiality is critical. The Investigator reports to the department’s Director. This is a 12-month full-time administrative professional position, based in Fort Collins, with the potential for flexible work arrangements, including some remote work, however, on-campus presence is also necessary.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in related field (higher education, gender studies, counseling).

    + Must have previous experience working with investigations of sexual misconduct.

    + Must have 2+ years of experience working with investigations (criminal and/or otherwise).

    + Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and perform professionally.

    + Must possess imagination, creativity, and a high level of self-motivation.

    + Must possess strong attention to accuracy and detail.

    + Demonstrated experience working with policy and compliance.

    + Knowledge of Federal regulations in higher education, including but not limited to Title IX, VAWA , and the Clery Act.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Demonstrated experience with Title IX investigations and compliance.

    + Familiarity with Maxient Case Management system.

    + Demonstrated experience working at a large public higher education institution.

    + Certified as Title IX/Civil Rights investigator through a nationally recognized organization.

    - Conduct inquiries and investigations with discretion and judgment in an objective and impartial manner. Coordinate with departments and individuals across campus to facilitate timely investigations.

     

    - Gather and analyze information and evidence, conduct interviews, compile documentation, interpret information by applying proper judgement and create reports related to investigations.

     

    - Critically analyze investigation materials for compliance with Title VII , Title VI, ADA , Title IX, VAWA , the Clery Act, and University policy.

     

    - Coordinate referral of investigative reports for further review and processing.

     

    - Communicate critical information related to investigations.

     

    - Serve as witnesses in Title IX hearings.
