    Job Description

    Manage and Triage mental health high risk Incarcerated Individuals for specialized housing - offenders newly coming into prison that are exhibiting concerning behavior or expressing harming thoughts must be addressed and appropriate precautions applied.

     

    Facilitate psychological needs on an emergent level and include psychiatry as needed.

     

    Iowa Medical and Classification Center receives emergency mental health crisis offenders from seven other IDOC facilities; their needs are identified and assessed for possible civil commitment or other psychological resources to stabilize their mental health in order to return to their facility

     

    Designs behavior modification programs and provides direction for staff in behavior management.

     

    Treatment plans are created for offenders experiencing mental health issues, and these plans are followed in the daily living units where the offenders reside - ensure that staff supervising the offender in their housing are able to keep treatment plan in place for the offender.

     

    Check in with different staff involved with an offender's daily activities to determine the right level of care for that individual, and examine if their plan needs adjusted to best accommodate their needs.

     

    These steps make it possible for the offender to progress forward and manage their behavior appropriately to stay out of a restricted housing situation.

     

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Master’s degree in psychology, mental health counseling, applied behavior analysis, clinical social work, behavioral sciences, mental health, or a closely-related field.

    Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain one or more of the following certificates, licenses, or endorsements:

    + Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

    + Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor (LCADAC)

    + Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

    + Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW)

    + Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

    + Licensed Behavioral Analyst

    + Provisional Licensed Psychologist
