Description
The Slover invites applications for a part-time Visitor Services Assistant position in its Visitor Services division. This position helps ensure The Slover serves as a vital and dynamic “lighthouse” of community lifelong learning, civic engagement, and leading-edge technology available to all citizens of the region. Success in this position draws on the incumbent’s competencies in advocating an inclusive and diverse library environment, nurturing safe and accessible library spaces, embracing innovative processes and technologies that enhance operations, collaborating with senior leadership and community partners on holistic strategic planning initiatives, and practicing sustainable resources management within available means.
This position services Slover’s spaces and resources for revenue-generating events as well as for meetings, exhibitions, tours, and special engagements.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
+ Facilitate event scheduling by checking for available spaces and requesting dates to be placed on hold. Prepare and distribute rental packages and policies with rates and venue information.
+ Provide customer service support by responding to customer inquiries, feedback, and problems. Resolve problems or complaints from clients and the public in accordance with established policies and procedures.
+ Communicate with clients on facility and equipment setup options and materials needed to achieve desired results. Ensure adherence to requirements, agreements, and contractual obligations. Work closely with the event organizer prior to and during the event to ensure event goals and requests are achieved.
+ Assist in executing event space set-up and tear-down as per communicated event time, needs and or requests, i.e., appropriate room layout and audio/visual.
+ Provide audio/visual assistance and troubleshooting to patron/clients in event spaces as need be during the event.
Education/Experience
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
+ One year experience in customer service or related experience
+ Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
+ Must be able to work with patrons from any demographic, as part of a team, and a flexible schedule.
+ Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and handle multiple priorities.
+ Familiarity in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new programs.
+ Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds.
Additional Information & Requirements
Work Hours: Workdays and hours will vary depending on organizational needs and event schedules. Events are typically within the hours of 8:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday – Saturday with possible evening events till 11:00 pm.
This position will require flexibility to work weekend and evening schedules.
+ Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
+ Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.
+ Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.
+ Retirement
If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
+ The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
