    We are seeking a **_Patient Service Coordinator/CMA (PSC/MA)_** who will work in collaboration with the Sr. Program Coordinator, Center Manager and the Director of the Center for Infectious Disease and Nursing Innovation (CIDNI) of The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in active community engagement throughout our programs depending on the active projects at the time. Engage in courteous and confidential assistance to clients in all of our projects, implement and promote clinical care and support in community outreach for infectious disease and prevention. Maintain accurate information on each client encounter. Use automated systems to expedite patient scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out. Work with others in a team environment.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Coordinate community events associated with testing to ensure CIDNI, the School of Nursing and Johns Hopkins University are professionally represented.

    + Engage members of the community in learning more about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections with the goal of linking, re-engaging, and retaining individuals interested in PrEP and/or HIV into the correct care.

    + Work directly with clients in the community to test using point of care tests for HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infections.

    + Work directly with clients at increased risk of HIV and STIs, substance abuse, and/or behavioral health conditions by providing support, advocacy, and navigation through medical and ancillary systems of care and other services as needed.

    + Perform injections, including but not limited to, flu, COVID, Hepatitis A, B, evaluate medications and provide injection-based treatments as needed for clients in our programs.

    + Draw blood for confirmation lab work or safety labs while on PrEP or HIV medications.

    + Provide resources, guidance and assistance to clients to ultimately improve HIV and co-morbidity improvement and engagement.

    + Document in EPIC, REDCap and CAREWare depending on the needs of the projects.

    + Work as part of the CIDNI team to provide support in innovative and new ways to reach our target populations.

    + Any other duties at the discretion of the supervisor, the center manager or PI of the project.

    + Offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every client.

    + Maintain accurate information on each client to facilitate the client encounter. Use automated systems to expedite client scheduling, pre-registration, check-in, and check-out. Work with others in a team environment.

    + Schedule patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations, and consultations. Relay information to clients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations.

    + Coordinate visits either within the department or between several departments. Telephone and interview clients and/or family members to obtain accurate pre-registration. information and to confirm appointments. Verify and enter pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system and prepare daily printed schedules for designated areas. Obtain and/or verify client's demographic data by phone or in person.

    + Obtain pre-certifications as required by clients' health care insurers or managed care providers. Arrange or assist in arranging patient transportation.

    + Answer phones and assist clients.

    + Participates in the care of the client, under the direct supervision of the clinician and in collaboration with the healthcare team.

    + Collects client information and assessment data. Obtains and records patient’s vital signs: temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height. Reports assessment findings to clinician, and records on appropriate documentation forms in a timely manner. Obtains additional data from client and significant others based on initial data collection. Perform chart review prior to clinic visit to obtain historical data.

    + Organizes patient care activities based on assessment findings.

    + Confirms and clarifies written orders prior to implementation of delegated tasks.

    + Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.

    + Under clinical supervision, performs delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, and efficient manner according to Clinical Practice Policy and Procedures.

    + Assists practitioner in identified client procedures/treatments/examinations, (preparation, positioning, supplies, equipment). Proactively problem-solves and identifies solutions to barriers to safety.

    + Appropriately obtains and manages specimens, including labeling, form completion, transport to laboratories, and log maintenance. Performs quality control for waived testing.

    + Recognizes emergency situations and implements emergency procedures according to clinic guidelines. Administers first aid, CPR, and maintains emergency equipment and supplies.

    + Provides appropriate patient education, health information materials and community resource lists as directed, and maintains educational supplies. Identifies client’s need for additional information and refers to appropriate healthcare resources.

    + Maintains stock needed for clinic areas with standard levels of supplies, medications, linens, forms and equipment.

    + Operates clinical equipment according to equipment procedures including safety and quality control checks. Checks clinic area and rooms for malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems on a regular basis. Reports findings to appropriate person or arranges for repairs as required.

    + Ensures that soiled linen, needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from the clinic and exam area according to the infection control guidelines.

    + Performs related and delegated tasks, which includes requests for prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, directing patient flow and running errands.

    + Must be willing to travel and work during events and testing throughout the city and state of Maryland among the community.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + High school diploma or graduation equivalent and certification/registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP). If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire.

    + One year work experience in a similar service-oriented industry.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity.
