Compensation:
The wage range listed represents the potential compensation opportunities for this position. Starting salary will be thoughtfully determined by the hiring manager based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, education, relevant skills, and qualifications brought to the role. The initial offer could be any amount within the posted range, reflecting Epsilon's commitment to fair and competitive compensation.
Where you’ll work:
This fully remote opportunity allows you the flexibility to work from home in support of Epsilon’s USDA DISC Customer.
**Our Customer’s Mission** :
The USDA Digital Infrastructure Services Center (DISC) operates 24/7/365 to provide comprehensive on premises and cloud-based hosting services, including Disaster Recovery, security, and professional support services and operations to approximately 35 federal organizations. The USDA and other Federal partners depend upon DISC’s highly complex and interconnected technology infrastructure to conduct their operations. To better support this mission, DISC is modernizing their technology by transitioning to a continuous integration, deployment, and code-based organization.
An average day:
As Storage Services III | Mainframe Storage, you will be responsible for administering and maintaining the mainframe storage environment, ensuring availability, performance, compliance, and security. This role encompasses installation, configuration, migration, and monitoring of mainframe storage systems, including IBM storage, NetApp target storage, and virtual tape environments. This position supports production and disaster recovery systems, provides technical consulting for new technologies, and ensures operational excellence in alignment with USDA DISC’s ITIL-based service model. In this position you will:
+ Administer and oversee all aspects of mainframe storage infrastructure, including IBM storage and NetApp target storage.
+ Manage substantial storage capacities (~70 TB primary, ~250 TB DR) with multiple replicated copies.
+ Lead and support migration projects from Luminex to IBM Virtual Tape servers, including DR installations and replication setup.
+ Administer and manage IBM Data Facility Removal Media Manager (DFRMM) for tape library management.
+ Configure and administer Brocade 7840 switches for connectivity between sites.
+ Collaborate with internal teams (network, NAS storage, mainframe) to ensure throughput and performance goals are met.
+ Monitor, analyze, and optimize storage performance with reporting and monitoring tools
+ Utilize IBM SMP/E, Job Control Language (JCL), file structures (HFS, ZFS, PDS), TSO ISPF, SDSF, and DFSMS.
+ Administer z/OS systems (currently 2.5, upgrading to 3.1), including maintenance and IODF management.
+ Diagnose and resolve incidents independently; update and manage tickets consistently.
+ Develop technical specifications, documentation, and on-the-job training (OJT).
+ Provide technical consulting and impact analysis for new technologies.
+ Participate in Agile project management and DevSecOps practices.
+ Develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures; support regular DR testing.
+ Provide 24x7/365 remote and on-site facility support.
Basic Qualifications:
+ As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C) , Epsilon will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
+ 5–7 years of experience as a mainframe systems programmer with focus on storage administration.
+ Demonstrated expertise in mainframe storage management (IBM DASD, IBM/NetApp VTL, Luminex VTL, SMS).
+ Hands-on experience with replication, backup, and storage migration practices.
+ Familiarity with TREX, catalog backup utilities, space reduction software, and file format conversions.
+ Understanding of LPAR interactions with tape drives.
+ Familiarity with BMC Control-M job scheduling.
+ Experience and comfort with change and ambiguity
+ Strong written and oral communication skills in the English language. All contractor employees must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
+ Exceptional customer service skills.
+ Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
+ Ability to communicate applicable technical subject matter expertise to management and others.
+ ITIL v4 Foundation knowledge and experience applying ITIL practices.

+ Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust. ( _This is a federal contract position and requires candidates to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of Security Clearance or Public Trust. Adjudication of the required Security Clearance or Public Trust is determined solely by the government. + Move, rack and stack servers, switches, or routers.
