Summary About the position: This position is Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Buckner Fitness Center Pool on JBER, AK. This is a Regular Part-Time position. Regular Part-Time employees have regular/continuous work schedules of at least 20 hours to a max of 34 hours per week. Responsibilities Works under the direction of the Aquatic Manager who is available to deal with unusual situations which may occur and to provide guidance and instructions when performing new or procedurally complex duties. As a working leader, performs the following types of lead duties: Provides day-to-day advice and guidance to employees for work assignments; relays instructions from the supervisor for work assignments; gets the work started and sets the work pace; demonstrates work methods and provides work-related guidance; ensures that the worksite materials and tools are available; ensures that employees follow security and safety rules; teaches swim lessons to various age groups from infants to adults; and assists with leading lifeguard in-service training. Reports all safety violations to immediate supervisor. Provides input on performance, progress, and disciplinary problems. Enforces established operating policies and procedures. When not performing lead duties: Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, main pools, pool decks, etc. Ensures the safe operation of the pool, it filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water test. Performs lifeguarding duties and limited management functions. Responsible for teaching aquatic swimming and water survival training according to TC 21-21. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (infant, child and adult) training. Must have or receive the Red Cross Certified as a WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification prior to or within the first 30 days of employment. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC). Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. Additional Information Individual must fully meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position. U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement..
