    Job Summary

    The Departments of Mathematics and Statistics are offering the Master of Science in Quantitative Finance and Risk Management (Quant), an interdisciplinary degree for students interested in developing sophisticated quantitative skills. We are currently seeking an Academic Program Manager to join our friendly, collaborative, and welcoming student services team. This position will work with our quant master's students, helping them achieve their milestones in this program. This position works closely with the Quant Program Career Manager and reports to the Director of Student Services in Mathematics.

    Responsibilities*

    Overall Program Management:

    Maintain current knowledge of peer program practices, benchmarks, and new developments. Research and implement activities for program goals and objectives in collaboration with faculty program director. Prepare and evaluate data for annual program rankings. Advise faculty on curricular changes and opportunities. This requires an understanding of graduate education and the curriculum and student population of the Quant Program. Work closely with the Quant Program Career Manager to ensure students receive assistance with the career development and planning process.

    Student Services:

    Serve as primary point-of-contact for Quantitative Finance and Risk Management students. Ensure students have access to relevant academic and wellness resources across campus. Plan orientation and pre-arrival activities. Provide curriculum advising and planning resources. Communicate registration deadlines, program requirements, and changes to curriculum. Actively seek out and promote academic opportunities to current students. Develop and update program handbook; develop resources for students to track completion of degree requirements.

    Advising and Counseling:

    Student advising and counseling of approximately 60 active graduate students. Responsible for monitoring each student's progress and providing academic guidance to ensure each student advances in their degree program, makes progress toward career goals, and/or receives the necessary resources on their specific issue. Interpret and explain academic requirements to graduate students and provide information about course selection, course waivers, dual degree opportunities, co-curricular opportunities, and other academic concerns. In consultation with the International Center, advise students on academic, personal, and professional concerns related to F-1 visa status (OPT, CPT, reduced course load authorization) and cultural adjustment in the United States. Oversee the coordination of the faculty advising program, including the assignment of students to faculty advisors, development of new advising programs and procedures, and the development of training and resources for new faculty advisors.

    Recruitment and Admissions:

    Manage all aspects of Quant Program graduate student recruitment. Determine recruitment strategy, develop and execute recruitment plan. Develop and deliver information sessions for prospective students. Create and disseminate online and offline marketing materials, including management of program website. Identify promising students and advise prospective students on preparation of application materials and prerequisite coursework. Manage faculty review of applications, including development and maintenance of resources to aid in reviews, including system and guidelines for evaluation, reports demonstrating performance of past and current students, and information about feeder schools.

    Financials:

    Manage Student Financial Aid, Awards and Fellowships. Advise Quant Program students on funding opportunities. Manage budgets for program events and initiatives, including orientation, and new student recruitment efforts. Advise faculty on how best to manage available fellowship funds to meet recruiting goals.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Associate degree or equivalent and more than four years related experience in advising, coordinating programs and/or events in a university/college setting.

    + Event and program planning experience.

    + Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think creatively and problem solving.

    + Ability to work independently and as part of a team that values openness, positivity and hard work.

    + Demonstrated ability to manage and organize a variety of work duties simultaneously under timelines and within a fast paced environment.

    + Enthusiasm and energy for working on behalf of students and their career interests.

    + High level of professionalism, and demonstrated excellent customer service.

    + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    + Strong communication skills including verbal, writing and listening skills.

    + Contribute to a diverse environment of colleagues and students representing diverse populations.

    + Ability to set expectations and achieve results while contributing to the harmony of the team.

    + Strong computing skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Google apps, online research skills and general comfort with web based systems.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Bachelor's degree

    + Knowledge of norms, trends, and stakeholders in quantitative finance, both in academics and industry.

    + Extensive experience working with international students, particularly from Mainland China.

    + Knowledge of and experience with web-based surveys.

    + Knowledge of and experience using various online marketing tools such as Constant Contact.

    + Knowledge of University of Michigan policies.

    + Some experience and skills with Illustrator, Visio or InDesign for internal marketing pieces and publications are a plus.
