About the Position
As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in planning, coordinating, overseeing and evaluating the services provided by the Health and Wellness (H&W) Department. Position functions in a nursing capacity and ensures clinical activities are performed according to departmental guidelines, state and federal regulations.
Key Duties
+ Reviews staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage to meet resident needs. Oversees completion of monthly schedule and monitors overtime.
+ Oversees training and orientation for new H&W staff in conjunction with Nursing Staff Educator. Assists with assessing staff educational needs, providing in-service training and other educational programs, and providing daily coaching to nursing staff; Acts as a mentor and resource person for H&W staff on departmental policies and procedures and regulatory compliance.
+ Assists with the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of culture change initiatives and special projects.
+ Monitors standards of nursing practice and departmental policies and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements; offers recommendations for updates.
+ Represents Health and Wellness Department in interfacing with departments, community, educational institutions, residents, and residents’ families.
+ Conducts leadership rounds to assess team members satisfaction and to address concerns identified during interactions with team members.
+ Provides clinical supervision and/or direct clinical care in nursing care delivery.
+ In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and the Admissions Coordinator maintains established census metrics for the HCC through review of charts from area hospitals and admissions from home.
+ Conducts interviews for Health and Wellness staff.
+ In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, completes performance evaluations on a timely basis.
+ Promotes an environment that supports the safety of residents, visitors, and staff; Investigates accidents, and takes appropriate action according to organizational policies and procedures.
+ Acts as Director of Nursing, Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or in other related leadership capacities as requested, including Nurse on Call with the administrative team.
+ Assists with Quality Improvement / Risk Management activities by completing staff competencies, observing medication administration, tracking concerns, review medical records, monitoring accidents on an ongoing basis.
+ In conjunction with Social Work, investigates resident, family, physician or staff concerns and takes necessary action to provide a resolution.
Job Requirements
+ Licensed as an RN required in Virginia. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
+ CPR certification required.
+ Minimum of five (5) years experience in nursing with progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a long-term care environment.
+ Knowledge of Federal and State regulations required.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
+ Must be proficient in computer skills.
+ Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with others
