Job Duties: (A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned.)
+ Performs all aspects of lead worker responsibilities (training, work planning, and assumes responsibilities of Sub area supervisor in his/her absence) to ensure crews (patching, paving and milling) meet goals and time frames established by project needs and achieves project/program objectives.
+ Maintains technical expertise resulting in consistently current technical knowledge, quality decision making and improved customer relationships.
+ Performs traffic control set-ups in high volume traffic are in accordance with the provisions of the Temporary Traffic Zone Layouts field manual, to ensure the safety of the employees and the traveling public.
+ Calculates and coordinates the necessary materials and the equipment to efficiently complete projects, and keeps daily reports of completed projects, so that accurate records are kept for future work planning. Monitors inventory and orders materials as needed.
+ Ensures proper maintenance, safe operation and monitors proper performance of specialty equipment used for smooth pavement (i.e., mill vactor, low boys, rollers, bearcats, blow patcher, Class 33 and 35 trucks) effectively in a timely manner to ensure safety and maximum equipment life.
+ Coordinate with Gopher One on projects as required.
+ Independently process advertising, access, junkyard, and utility permits for completeness and to address plan issues.
+ Acts as a technical expert and performs job duties in the area of snow and ice operations, equipment maintenance in accordance with plans, standards and specifications so that department and district objects are met.
+ Directs and manages snow and ice shifts, including prioritizing call outs, contacting local law enforcement, recording data, and performing snow and ice removal so that roadways are cleared of snow and ice and safe for travel while also ensuring that existing data is current so that work planning and budget management can be accomplished.
Minimum Qualifications
A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no air brake restriction and tanker endorsement; candidates will be considered with a Class B CDL but must have the higher licensure by the end of probation.
The level of experience to perform this job at the Transportation Generalist Senior level can be achieved with:
+ Two years of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience).
+ Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
+ Applicants that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 3 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance of the offer is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.) If you’ve previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting. Please check with your district HR office.
