    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    The Trauma Nurse Lead provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Trident Medical Center and the Trauma Services Line. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the health care team, the trauma nurse lead assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. The Trauma Nurse Lead demonstrates strong trauma clinical assessment, nursing intervention, and strong communication/leadership skills.

     

    In addition to clinical responsibilities the Trauma Nurse Lead provides trauma program support. The Trauma Nurse Lead will work with both in-patient and emergency departments as directed by the Trauma Program Director.

    Responsibilities include, although are not limited to:

    + Responds to trauma team activations

    + Responsible for ensuring trauma bays are stocked and ready for incoming trauma activations

    + Coordinates care of incoming trauma patients.

    + Reviews/evaluates all activations for triage level appropriateness

    + Manages care with primary trauma surgeon

    + Responsible for trauma documentation compliance

    + Responds to in-house trauma patients’ critical needs

    + Daily rounding of trauma patients

    + Mentors trauma nurse responders

    + Assists with real time education through training and in-service needs in the ED and Inpatient settings

    + Attends daily multi-disciplinary rounds with the trauma service team

    + Identifies and reports on hospital events involving trauma patients

    + Participates in scholarly activities

    + Functions as a clinical liaison for pre-hospital partners

    + Facilitates/Leads trauma bay time outs and debriefings in collaboration with primary surgeon

    + Regularly communicates with the charge nurses on all units regarding trauma patients

    + Assists in obtaining vascular access with ultrasound guided IV placement

    + Assists with discharge teaching needs of admitted trauma patients

    + Coordinates with the trauma surgeon/anesthesiologist during mass transfusion of trauma patients

    + Responds to in-house emergencies as available

    + Review and audit trauma nursing documentation

    + Participates in duties as assigned by the director of trauma services

    What qualifications you will need:

    + Active RN (Registered Nurse) license in state in which you practice or compact licensure

    + Registered Nurse Diploma from accredited school of nursing

    + BSN Preferred

    + Minimum of 2 years experience in critical care or emergency nursing

    + 1 year in trauma care preferred

    + BLS Required upon hire

    + PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of hire

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 6 months of hire

    + Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 6 months of hire

    + Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 6 months of hire

    + Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

    + TCRN, CEN, or CCRN preferred
