Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Laboratory Assistant at our facility, you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing. In this role:

+ Collects blood samples ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.

+ Follows hospital policies and procedures for transporting/delivering samples to Laboratory.

+ Receives specimens into computer system and delivers them to the appropriate areas of the lab for testing.

+ Maintains strict quality control for procedures.

+ May perform special tests such as glucose tolerance tests.

+ Streaking plates for microbiology set up, perform and report specific waived testing.

+ Maintains records of tests performed and blood samples taken.

+ Maintains needed equipment and supplies.

+ Provides age and culturally appropriate care.

+ Orients and mentors new staff members.

+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

+ You will provide courteous and caring customer service and support to patients, family members, physicians, and their office staff.

+ You will order Laboratory tests and, when necessary, send specimens to a reference laboratory.

+ You will verify documentation on incoming orders and maintain necessary logs.

+ You will send test results of outpatients to the attending physician.

+ You will train new employees and others in specimen receiving duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

+ Good computer skills; filing/clerical skills.

+ Prior specimen receiving experience preferred.

+ Phlebotomy experience preferred.

+ Course in medical terminology preferred.

+ Excellent communication skills.

+ Valid driver’s license.
