This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a **Senior Resident Engineer** for our **Irvine, California** office. Be involved in projects with our **Construction Management Team** and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The Resident Engineer provides technical leadership for complex construction management projects or programs, serving as a Resident Engineer supervising construction engineering and inspection activities. This person must be capable of applying diversified knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices and independently making decisions on significant construction engineering issues and problems. Elements to be inspected or monitored may include maintenance of traffic, earthwork, drainage, utility relocation, storm water pollution prevention implementation and compliance, construction of roadway sections, pedestrian and bike facilities, structure elements of work, traffic and lighting improvements, landscape work and other similar activities.
Your Impact
+ Provide guidance to inspectors and staff in carrying out their day to day duties
+ Provide consultation on complex contract interpretation issues as called upon by the client’s RE or construction manager
+ Act as an advisor to the client’s RE or construction manager
+ Perform inspections and review work to achieve compliance with contract plans and specifications on all phases of Highway construction, such as paving, structures, grading, drainage, utility relocation, electrical installation, sign installation, and landscaping items.
+ Provides field measurements and assist in compiling quantity reports (CQVs) for payment of quantities and changes in the work
+ Perform quantity calculations for progress pay estimates and keep project records.
+ Perform design for minor changes and make design estimates for contract change orders.
+ Perform analytical calculations for items such as basic earthwork and grading, special staking procedures and redesigning facilities to fit existing field conditions.
+ Maintain continuous communication with the Caltrans' RE, client’s Project Manager, Principal Assistant (Resident) Engineer, field personnel, public outreach personnel, and with construction administration staff.
+ Provides general inspections on construction labor and subcontractor work to assure a good and workmanlike operation
+ Monitors quality control and quality assurance material field testing for concrete, steel, asphalt and soils as applicable
+ Prepares inspector daily reports (IDR’s) in accordance with the project's requirements
+ Provides technical leadership for complex construction management projects or programs, serving as a Resident Engineer or Project Manager supervising construction engineering and inspection activities
+ Apply diversified knowledge of construction engineering principles and practices and independently making decisions on significant construction engineering problems.
+ Manages technical field staff
+ Responsible for field engineering, contract administration, inspection, testing, surveying, and quality control on one large or several small construction projects.
+ Supervises field inspection and field office personnel
+ Manages sub-consultants
+ Represents projects at meetings and conferences
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
+ BSCE degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.)
+ Minimum of 15 years of experience, 5 directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles
+ Licensed professional civil engineer
+ Thorough knowledge of Caltrans construction practices.
+ A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents
+ A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g. Caltrans)
+ Ability to make effective decisions concerning field problems and work in progress.
+ Effective oral and written communication skills.
+ Valid, current California Driver's license
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
+ Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening
Preferred Qualifications
+ Caltrans experience a plus
+ Resident Engineer Skills
+ A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and material is required.
+ Bridge construction inspection experience preferred
+ Rail experience preferred
+ An ability to read and completely understand contract documents is required.

Compensation:
Expected Salary: $194,900- $310,860
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
