Academic Program Specialist (HEOa) - Transfer Success Specialist/Assistant Director
POSITION DETAILS
Queens College (QC), a senior college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system, serves students from local communities and various countries worldwide. As a baccalaureate-degree granting institution, QC values and welcomes students transferring from other colleges, particularly community colleges within our borough, city, and neighboring counties. To enhance transfer student success, QC is establishing a Transfer Hub to enhance and advance transfer student success. The Transfer Hub will be dedicated to supporting transfer students and strengthening partnerships and collaborations with community college partners.
QC Transfer Hub is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Transfer Success Specialist/Assistant Director. Reporting to the Senior Director for Transfer Success and Partnerships, the Transfer Success Specialist/Assistant Director will play an integral role in managing the daily operation of the Transfer Hub and supporting a wide range of initiatives aimed at advancing transfer student success and strengthening QC’s collaborations with our community college partners. In addition to the duties outlined in the CUNY Title Overview, the Transfer Success Specialist/Assistant Director will:
+ Support transfer student engagement and outreach initiatives, including pre-transfer and post-admission programming.
+ Manage inclusive communication strategies and multiple platforms to engage prospective and admitted transfer students, including social media, newsletters, and event calendars.
+ Serve as a resource for transfer students throughout the admissions process, providing guidance on enrollment and connecting them to key campus resources.
+ Collaborate with academic advising, admissions, and specialized programs (e.g., Transfer Honors Program, ACE, QSTEM Academy, etc.) to ensure a smooth and well-supported transition for incoming transfer students.
+ Build and maintain partnerships with community college partners to enhance transfer pathways and student readiness.
+ Curate and promote academic and co-curricular resources, including faculty advising, tutoring, career services, and experiential learning opportunities.
+ Assist with the administration and management of various transfer-focused student success grant-funded projects and initiatives.
+ Collect and analyze data to assess student needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and support transfer-focused initiatives, such as CUNY Transfer Explorer, degree mapping, and the advisory groups on transfer student success, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience. An earned master’s degree in a related field may substitute up to two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Four years of relevant experience in higher education, college admissions and recruitment, academic advising, or student success programs.
+ Two years of direct experience working with community college and/or transfer students.
+ Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments/units.
+ Strong understanding of the interconnectivity of key student success functions, including recruitment and admissions, advising, and student engagement.
+ Experience using data to inform decision-making and for the development of internal program processes.
+ Ability to establish inclusive and equitable working relationships with students and peers
+ Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Excel and Access, Student Information System (e.g., CUNYfirst/PeopleSoft), Student Success Management System (e.g., Navigate360).
+ Excellent organization, communication, and supervisory skills

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
- Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
- Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
- Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
- Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
- May supervise office operations and/or department budget
- Performs related duties as assigned.
