UVA Health University Hospital is seeking a Director of Ambulatory Operations - Initiatives and Implementation to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our ambulatory services. The Director, Ambulatory Operations, Initiatives and Implementation, is responsible for leading and advancing strategic growth initiatives within UVA Health Medical Center Ambulatory Operations. This role supports the integration of ambulatory business operations with a focus on accelerating service expansion, supporting construction and renovation projects, and providing flexible, scalable operational infrastructure to absorb unanticipated and priority demands. The Director plays a critical role in improving system integration to support clinical and business development strategies while strengthening organizational agility. The role excludes clinical/nursing and access operations oversight, which are resourced separately.
+ Leads the planning, coordination, and execution of ambulatory strategic initiatives, including growth, expansion, and cross-enterprise integration projects.
+ Partners with leadership to develop, operationalize, and evaluate business models that advance growth in alignment with UVA Health’s strategic plan.
+ Serves as the operational liaison for ambulatory construction and renovation initiatives, ensuring projects align with strategic priorities, operational workflows, and system integration goals.
+ Develops and sustains operational frameworks to support agility, scalability, and rapid deployment of resources to meet system needs, including new programs and external partnerships.
+ Collaborates across ambulatory domains (e.g. clinical operations, IT, access, finance, analytics, facilities, accreditation, and project management) to enhance readiness for business and clinical transformation.
+ Analyzes trends, resource utilization, and operational data to recommend investments in infrastructure or processes that promote sustainable growth.
+ Serves as a trusted strategic advisor to clinical departments and leaders to inform alignment and shared decision-making.
+ Develops operational and business plans for new or transitioning ambulatory programs, supporting seamless execution from concept to go-live to sustainability.
+ Ensures compliance with UVA Health policies and regulatory requirements during project planning and implementation.
+ Builds and maintains relationships across the enterprise to foster collaboration, minimize duplication of efforts, and promote continuous improvement in non-clinical ambulatory operations.
+ Represents Ambulatory Operations on strategic councils and task forces related to system growth, partnerships, and business development.
+ In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in Business, Health Administration, or related field preferred.
Experience:
+ Minimum of 5 years in healthcare operations, strategy, or business development with progressively responsible roles.
+ Experience leading cross-functional projects or initiatives involving system growth or ambulatory expansion is highly desirable.
Skills:
+ Proven ability to lead and influence in a matrixed environment.
+ Strong project management and organizational skills.
+ Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to execute operational plans.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at spreadsheets.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary role involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel to clinics, meetings, and construction sites is required.
Position Compensation Range: $104,908.00 - $209,817.00 Annual
